THE FRAME FARM--SAME DAY
SHARLENE is in the kicthen surrounded by food. GREG, ALLI and
SEAN walk in.
SHARLENE
Oh, Gregory, I'm glad you're back. I wanted you to try this pasta
salad and make sure its okay.
GREG
Ok, Mom.
SHARLENE
Alli Fowler? (She takes off her apron and hugs Alli) You look
like a different person!
ALLI
Is that a good thing or a bad thing?
SHARLENE
Definitely a good thing! You look beautiful! I always knew you
would be a knockout one day.
ALLI
Thanks. It's good to see you back, too. This is my friend Sean.
Sean McKinnon.
SHARLENE
Hi, Sean. Any relation to Jake and Vicky?
SEAN
Yeah, Jake is my uncle.
ALLI
Sean's living with them for the summer. And hopefully Greg and I
will be able to convince him to stay longer.
SHARLENE
So what have you kids been up to today?
GREG
(shrugs)
Not much. Hung out. We're going rollerblading tomorrow.
SHARLENE
Well, the three of you could do me a huge favor if you'd go get
things set up outside for the party.
GREGORY
(looking at Alli and Sean)
You guys mind? (They shake their heads) Sure, Mom.
Alli, Greg, and Sean go outside, leaving Sharlene with the
cooking.
FADE OUT
INSIDE THE HARBOR CLUB--SAME DAY
CASS, LILA, and LORNA walk into the Harbor Club, where they see
FELICIA. She smiles at them as they all join her at the table.
FELICIA
I was wondering what was taking you so long.
LORNA
My fault. A slight run-in outside.
FELICIA
Run-in? With who?
LORNA
Oh, just Cindy. No one important.
Felicia's eyes widen and she looks at Cass, who shakes his head,
quietly.
FELICIA
Well....I hope you let her have it.
LORNA
Oh, believe me. I surprised myself out there, Mom.
CASS
She handled herself very well.
LILA
Extremely well. Poor Cindy looked like she was speechless...I've
never seen Cindy like that.
LORNA
I've had these images about seeing her for two years and
wondering what I'd say to her. I guess that was it. But let's get
off that subject. I want to hear about the wedding!
FELICIA
You know, Cass, I haven't even welcomed the two of you back from
your honeymoon! How was it?
LILA
Hawaii was divine! Gorgeous! Tons of sand and flowers and the
warm sun on our backs. Although, we didn't see MUCH of those
things.
FELICIA
(laughing)
I would hope not, on your honeymoon. When is Charlie coming home?
CASS
Rebecca picked her up from the airport this afternoon. We saw her
before we came to dinner and we'll pick her up for the fireworks.
Emma was thrilled to have her out in Oklahoma. Didn't want to let
her go.
LILA
And I can't wait to get my hands on my little Jasmine. Matt's had
her much too long.
LORNA
Jasmine is your daughter? Matt didn't tell me that.
LILA
Yes, Jasmine is mine. Matt and I share joint custody of her.
LORNA
How great! He showed me a picture of her at Josie and Gary's
ceremony. She's precious.
FELICIA
And just as adorable as another baby girl I can think of....
LORNA
(grins)
Oh, Mom, come on. I know you told Cass. It's a little late for a
birth announcement, don't you think?
CASS
(looking confused)
Birth announcement?
FELICIA
(whispering)
I really didn't tell him, honey. He's going to kill me for this
one.
CASS
What do I have to kill you for?
Lorna reaches into her purse and pulls out the picture of her and
Gabrielle. She hands it to Cass.
LORNA
Gabrielle Felicia McNamara. She's my daughter, Cass. I asked
Felicia to keep it quiet.
CASS
(looking at the picture, then at Lorna, then at Felicia.)
I can't believe you didn't tell me about this little beauty.
She's gorgeous, Lorna, absolutely gorgeous.
FELICIA
You're not mad?
CASS
Why would I be mad? To see a miracle like this? I'm not mad. I'm
ecstatic for the both of you.
As they all talk and look at pictures, we:
FADE OUT
CARL is looking out the back doors and holding a glass of brandy.
RACHEL walks up behind Carl and startles him.
RACHEL
I'm sorry, darling. I didn't mean to frighten you.
CARL
Don't apologize.
RACHEL
What's going on? You seem to have something on your mind.
CARL
Nothing, really. How are the grubs?
RACHEL
They're napping, but they'll be ready for the fireworks.
CARL puts his arm around Rachel and kisses her cheek.
CARL
Ready for the family tonight?
RACHEL
Of course. This is always a wonderful holiday. (She walks over to
the table to pick up an envelope, and notices the box on the
table) Carl, what's this?
Carl turns around to see her opening the box containing the
pendant. He goes to her, and takes the box.
CARL
Nothing, just a package I received in the mail today. From an old
friend.
RACHEL
All right. (She studies his face for a moment.) I'm going to wake
up Cory and Beth and get them ready for this evening.
She leaves, and Carl stares at the box for a moment.
CARL
(To himself)
I've got to get to the bottom of this. We'll see who this key
belongs to.
FADE OUT
THE HARBOR CLUB--SAME DAY
Still at LORNA, LILA'S, CASS'S and FELICIA'S table. They've
finished eating and look as though they are gathering their
belongings.
CASS
What have you two planned for the Fourth of July?
LORNA
I have to go pick up Gabrielle. I'm a little worried. Sergei's
been baby-sitting.
CASS
(laughing)
SERGEI? Is this one of his many, many talents?
FELICIA
(indignant)
He loves my granddaughter, just like everyone does. And you
should see him make her laugh. She cracks up every time he even
gets near her.
LILA
Why don't you all come over to the Cory's? I know Rachel wouldn't
mind and Matt asked us over there to spend the holiday. He said
the fireworks are beautiful from their gazebo. After we pick up
Charlie, we're heading over.
LORNA
That actually sounds like fun. Mom? Want to go?
FELICIA
(smiling)
Sure. A Fourth with Rachel and Carl sounds like a nice idea. Why
don't we head out of here, swing by and pick up Gabrielle, then
we'll go?
LORNA
I think that's a great idea.
They all stand up, and walk out of the Harbor Club. On the table,
there is still the picture of Gabrielle and Lorna, laying face
up. After they've left, HAYLEY walks over to the table, slowly.
She picks up the picture, and studies it. As she stares at it,
Lorna walks back into the restaurant and to the table. She finds
Hayley looking at the picture.
LORNA
Oh, good. I was hoping that wasn't thrown away yet.
HAYLEY
(Looking guilty)
No, it's fine. You wouldn't want to forget that.
LORNA
It's a prized possession. Thanks for keeping it safe for me.
HAYLEY
You're welcome. (She hands the picture to Lorna) How old is she?
LORNA
Eighteen months.
HAYLEY
She's really cute. Anyway, glad it didn't get thrown away.
LORNA
(smiles at her)
Thanks again.
Lorna leaves, as Hayley watches her.
HAYLEY
(to herself)
I didn't know. I really didn't know.
