[Me.. in 1972!]

BR (Before Radio)

I grew up in Melbourne's eastern suburbs, in a suburb called Vermont. Vermont's greatest claim to fame is that it's southern-most fringe is where the television series Neighbours is filmed.

The Early Hitz Years

In 1991, I was approached by Anton Vanderlely, who was later to become Hitz FM's first president. He encouraged me to join a group of young people who were attempting to set up their own radio station. I ended up a member of the committee, and presented Hitz FM's first breakfast show in December 1992.

In broadcasts two and three, I presented (and co-presented with Daryl Rae) the Saturday and Sunday night shows. On the last night of each broadcast, I was also lucky enough to produce and host the final hours of the transmission.

[That's me running and jumping into Hitz Cruiser number 23* for a funny sequence that went into our report on A Current Affair] .
This photo was taken Feb/March 1994.

*Of course, we only had one little station vehicle for our 3rd broadcast,
but that didn't stop us from calling it cruiser number 23.

The Later Hitz Years

In later broadcasts, I continued my work as a committee member, and broadcasting on-air Saturday and Sunday nights. At various times I also worked in production as well as writing, and assisting at station promotions. Broadcast 7 in January 1996 was my last broadcast with Hitz FM, and strangely enough... I finished my on-air contribution to the station in the same way as I had started in late 1992... hosting the breakfast show.

After Hitz

I'm still interested in the comings and goings at Hitz FM, and its sister stations (Wild) in Sydney and Brisbane. These days, I work as a copywriter/announcer for a radio station in regional NSW.
