Adventures in Arcadayn
The Quadralunic Cults worship the four Doshonids (gods of the lesser moons): Palogira the Messenger, Lastor the Crafter, Pranira the Artist and Kobor the Trickster. These four are the children of the primary moon-god Doshonor, who is worshiped by the Celestian Church. They are gods of culture, family, community, and everyday professions. Their priests are very involved in their local communities, acting as counselors and teachers, and sometimes as leaders of guilds. The wheel is the most common symbol for these four gods as a group--unity, technology, travel, the cycles of life and the circular orbits of the lesser moons around Doshonil (Palogil, Lastos, Pranil and Kobos). "Guildfest," the first six days of Harvestmonth, is the Holy Week of these cults. (Larger cities celebrate over a full week, while smaller or poorer communities might only celebrate for 1-2 days.)
Palogira is the winged goddess of messengers, merchants and negotiators--she loves those who speak and bargain well. Her symbol is her own image (a winged woman), but her clerics also employ the herald's white rod of office as a sacred item. They have a solid reputation for honesty and diplomacy.
Lastor, depicted as a bald, burly man, is the god of crafts, science and technology. His priests will treat tools of their chosen craft or science as sacred. Tools that create other tools are the most sacred of all; thus, many of Lastor's clerics use a hammer as a symbol regardless of their actual skills.
Pranira, Lastor's twin, is the goddess of the arts--visual, literary, performing--and of illusion in general. Images of her vary widely; she is usually depicted as the ideal of feminine beauty in the artist's community or culture. Her one universal symbol is the mirror, which reflects both truth and illusion.
Kobor is the god of trickery and luck, and is usually depicted as a dwarfish man in a jester's costume. He is the favorite of thieves, charlatans, gamblers and professional fools. His symbols include a broken key, the cockscomb (jester's hat) and dice. Kobor does not have clerics in any conventional sense; instead, certain talented tricksters and daredevils might earn the god's favor in the form of increased luck.
Each god (except for Kobor) has a separate cult in those communities which can support this level of specialization. In smaller groups, a single clergy unites all four. These cults are rarely organized beyond the city or perhaps baronial level. The attitudes of Quadralunic communities to outsiders is highly variable--some will be hospitable to anyone who shares their gods, while others will be morally outraged that a wanderer has abandoned his home community. (As the heraldic sect, the Palogira cultists will often be instrumental in creating and modifying these attitudes.) Quadralunic cults are common throughout Krith and Visala, and can be found in parts of Haldinibar and Riversmidst.
