Review Of The Week: Boy Hits Car-ST-Wind Up As promised I am back with a review of the new Boy Hits Car self titled release. If you have ever heard the term, "it will grow on you" and couldn't relate, then this CD will give you all the meaning to those words you could ever use! The band, named after a fable of a boy who had to decide what path to take in life, is an intenese ball of energy that mixes the sounds of Arabia with thunderous hard rock music. This style, often used by bands like Led Zeppelin and The Tea Pary, proves not only to be chaotic but mellowing at times all the same. |
The band consists of four members: Michael (drums), Louis (guitar), Scott (bass) and Cregg (vocals). Cregg is also the man behind the seductive belly dancer esq sounds of the 12 string guitar. All of them add their own unique style to the mix of dynamic sounds. The CD starts off with the song The Rebirth which automatically brings the listener to a far off land with it's accoustic beginning and tribal drum beats. This is blown up with Cregg's rebel cry of "Lets Get Connected" which is followed by an explosion of heavy riffs and bass lines. However, as with most songs on the CD, the accoustic style keeps coming in and out of the song. The lead single I'm A Cloud is undoubtedly one of the most addicting songs on the CD. The song virtually all but drops the exotic sounds and features the band taking time to just rock out! Louis, Scott, and Michael keep up the intense rock as Cregg takes command with a chaotic mix of vocals like "I am so full of love/I am so full of hate." Man Without Skin has a conquest and conquer feel to it pulling you in with it's soft undertones and knocking you back with a fierce blow from it's mulitple changes in speed. The vocals are melodic and provide multiple voices to sing along with. The song also has a breakdown that will cause anyone to jump up while seeing them live. Going To India, one of the most explosive songs on the disc, literally takes you to the land of sacred cows and cobras! The song begins with a rythm that is reminisant of a belly dancer's sedutive dance. This is followed by the vocals provided Cregg once again telling how hes going to India to "watch all the elephants". Then all hell breaks loose as Cregg throws out a multiple of lryics that all seem to slur together as he sings out about 100 words a minute! The song breaks down in parts slowing things up only to speed again. The song ends just as it began with a slow Arabian rhythm and a girl singing in an seductive voice. The whole CD has 11 songs which also provide a fine mix of styles and speeds. Boy Hits Car, very much like the fabel behind the band's name, are doing their own thing providing listeners everwhere with a unique blend of sounds. The are not afraid to expierment which in the world of music is challenging yet oddly enough is often benefitial to survival in the world of music. |

Wow I can not believe what a slacker I am! A few weeks gone by without an update. Fuck Fuck Fuck...oh well... WSKB is still doing well...maybe except a few shows but other than that things are just GRRRREAT! The Thursday line up is killer as always with Kelly playing the best mix of music at 12 and followed by me at 2. Lately my shows are going all over the place with ideas and songs. This week did guys vs. girls in music and the girls edged it out over the guys 2-1 (Vixen beat Motley Crue). Next week I hope to put together a god vs. satan match up with bands like POD taking on Deicide and other. Stay tuned for details on the big matchup...and yes we'll sell you the seat but you only need the eeeeedge... Aside from pay per view death matches heres an update on new music at the station. Any song with the term "BITCHES" used more than 50 times is a must. That is why I am digging the new Wolf Pac CD! Who are these guys out of Philly? Simply a bunch of guys put together featuring ex. members of the Bloodhound Gang. Their style, very much like ICP and The Kotten Mouth Kings, are filled shovenistic and testosterone references which many may find offensive. However, after two or three listens I can guarantee that people will hear the band more for their groovin' sound. Among the standouts tracks All The Bitches and Somebody Is Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In they actually throw in a cover of The Humpty Dance with a twist! Oh yeah...Bitches... The new Oleander CD came in the other day and let me say...regardless of how made for radio airplay it is...I still enjoyed the CD like taking a good dump. Ok...bad metaphor but this CD still rocks. The name is Unwind and so far my favorites are the new single Are You There and the track Benign. Oh...the band Dog Fashioned Disco is amusing. Imagine being attacked by an evil carnival with red hot pokers and making a soundtrack to it. That would be this band! Not bad stuff though...not sure if they're going big soon though. Who knows if they want to? Also, even though I'm not a big punk guy I have to admit the new Tsunami Bomb CD is a whole lotta fun with songs that have a Misfit horror punk edge. Well thats it for this week...I'm out all...later! |
*Yes the suped up version sucks too... |
