Simple Questions

Asking

A simple statement is made into a simple question asking if that statement is true by placing the word ĉu before it.

Mi vin plaĉas. Ĉu mi vin plaĉas?

You like me. Do you like me?

Answering

The word jes means "yes", and ne means "no". Be careful, a question asked in the negative requires a negative as a response in the affirmative.

Jes, min vi plaĉas. Ne, min vi ne plaĉas.

Yes, I like you. No, I don't like you.

Ĉu vi ne parolas esperante? Ne, mi parolas esperante. Jes, mi ne parolas esperante.

Do you not speak Esperanto? No, I speak Esperanto. Yes, I don't speak Esperanto.
