Lesson 10: Miscellaneous
Phatics
Formation
Phatics are identified by the vowels lw. Adding an n after the vowels negates the phatic. A phatic generally stands by itself, but name of the person who is being addressed may precede it.
Kmwym gzlwbd!
Hello Karen!
Phatics can be formed by changing the vowel(s) of any word to lw and dropping the nasals. "Gzlwbd" comes from "gzn'ybd" which means friend.
Use
Phatics are generally used for ceremonial purposes, or to briefly describe a thought. Sometimes a phatic may be used in place of the imperative when time is of the issue, or the speaker just doesn't wish to take the time to say the entire imperative statement.
Ttlwn! Dlwt! Gdlwg!
No more! Quit it! Fire!
Questions
Simple Questions
A statement can be made into a question by following it with "hlo" or "hlon" which mean "right?" and "no?" respectively. Regardless of whether "hlo" or "hlon" is used to ask the question, "lo" is used to answer in the affirmative (yes), and "lon" is used to answer in the negative (no).
Qn'rmqq n'ley pshey hlon. Lo.
Don't you have children? Yes (I have children).
Interrogatives
Any part of speech may be made interrogative by dropped the two CCs and placing an h before the NVVVN.
