About the Classics Series

Some of the greatest works of fiction that history has ever seen are being ignored. Many of these works have come to be regarded as of little importance. Some have even been reclassified as children's literature, although this was not the authors' original intention. At one time, these were all popular and well thought of serious works of literature. So, what happened?

With each new literary period comes a change of taste. This frequently entails devaluing the works of the period immediately preceding it (and any work that may seem similar) while nostalgically looking back at a period far in the past as a "golden age." As a result, there is this sort of ebb of tastes; likes and dislikes come, go, and then return. Often, however, remnants of past "likes" can be seen in what we read to our children.

In this series, we wish to present you with some of our favorite classics, forgotten or otherwise. We hope that it will give you "I forgot about that" moments, and maybe even make you look at some of these works in a new light.
