History of the Band
By Andy & Hingo

Pentagrae was formed by Hingo and Willy in early 1999, with Hingo shredding out some awesome riffs, and Willy providing Rhythm Guitar and Vocals. With the addition of Dave whacking stuff it provided a more noisy loud feel to the songs. The next addition to the band was Andrew in late 1999, on the red thing with the strings that makes a lower noise than the other ones. This depth in the band allowed harder more complex songs like smells like teen spirit and killing in the name of to be performed.
After many long hours in an old apple shed, the band emerged with songs that were much better that the older ones. Then we introduce Bug, who became a second vocalist, and the new lead vocalist when Willy went to Germany.
Bugs raw Max Cavelera type looks and Britney Spears voice made him an ideal replacement.

Then for 2 years we jammed nearly every weekend and wrote some new songs which we would usually forget by the next jam session. Our first songs were rather crap with a song called "Ask Anyone" being out main song which was a pathetic sounding rap-core piece of crap which we played way too much. Video Hits would have been proud. Even before that we had an even crappier song without a name. We forgot about it and later while listening to the radio Andrew and myself heard the main riff of our song replicated nearly exactly by oz metal band Mark of Cain. They can have the riff, it sucked anyway.

Anyway, after that boring crap of doing nothing, Bug set us up with a party gig out at Mullion Creek (Nashville anyone?). We played a set featuring System of a Down, Deftones, RATM, KoRn and a few originals. Bug sang a bit but left us to play alone in front a bunch of "Shootin' tootin' Drinkin' for fun" yokels. Although even without Bug we still played much to the annoyance of the party guests. I guess rednecks don't even like Nu Metal.

We jammed a few more times with Bug but his working commitments made him too busy to turn up to most of our jams. However Andrew set us up with a gig with about 9 other bands including Sydney metal band "Anxiety Whispers", a band from Dubbo and the rest from Orange and Bathurst.

The band found itself without a singer for this gig so I quickly called upon Zac to fill in for the singing role. With this we also got another party gig on the night of the other gig. 2 gigs in one day! Anyway, new songs have been written and we are now following a Death Metal style sound crossed with New Metal.

The Second Popping the Cherry gig was a great success for Pentagrae as we played very well and there were no real screw ups, except for Andy tuning his bass while playing. Our setlist was different from the first one, this time we decided to make it all heavy shit and it worked!

The third Popping the Cherry gig is approaching this year, 2002, and we will be playing once again.
