Labrador Retrievers have been the most popular breed in the United States for over a decade now. Their eagerness to please, trusting nature, and fun loving personalities are qualities that are sure to keep them in the top spot.
Labradors are part of the American Kennel Club's sporting group. Like many other breeds in this group, they were originally bred to retrieve dead game in the field, swamps, lakes and the like. [Hence the tendency for most labs to LOVE water.] Labrador Retrievers come in three colors: Black, yellow, and chocolate. There are two strands of Labrador being bred today, field and show. Field labs tend to be more high-strung and energetic than their show-line counterparts.
As hard to resist as puppies can be, it is imperative that you research before getting ANY breed of dog. Doing a little homework before the fact can save you heartache in the long run. Here's a good place to start: tips on getting a puppy.
