Introduction
Pahang is the largest of Peninsular Malaysia's 11 states, with
a land area of 36,000 sq. kilometers, much of which is covered by
dense tropical rain-forest.
Kuantan, the state capital, is a colourful and bustling town with
good hotels, excellent restaurants and long white beaches. Many
local handicrafts are produced in the villages of Pahang, batik
and wood in Beserah near Kuantan, special seashell designs in Sungkai
Karang, and basketwork and songket cloth in many other towns.
Pahang has many quality beach resorts. Offshore, the tropical Pulau
Tioman is the largest and most beautiful island. It is now accessible
by air and sea.
For visitors seeking a respite from the heat and humidity. Pahang
has cool and relaxing retreats, namely, Cameron Highlands, Genting
Highlands and Fraser's Hill.
