A  Punic city( Adys, or Adyn according to Pliny), Uthina was one of the first Roman colonies founded by Empror Augustus in Africa. Settled by veterans from the 13th legion, it was promotd to the rank of honorary colonia by HADRIAN.
Uthina sent bishops to successive councils: Felix to Carthage in 225, Lampadius to Arles in 314, and (To Carthage again ) Isaac representing the Catholics and Felicianus the Donatistis in 410, Gallonius in 419 and Quietus in 525. An important Roman African town, it had a big amphitheatre, vast cisterns, and rich villas( House of the laberii and of Industruis)
