The herb Mullen was used centuries ago to make wicks for candles. To find the Mullen herb go to your local nursary, this herb may be hard to find but keep trying!
Mullen is a plant with a hard straight stem, when the plant is fully grown and ripe, cut and remove the hard outer stem. In the centre of the stem is a hard vegitable cord like substance. Remove the coreds and twist carefully. Then tie at top and bottom ends. Hang a small weight eg. a pebble and leave it to dry for several weeks. Once dry set it in candle wax. |
