Scouts include boys and girls in the age range of 10 and 1/2 - 15 years of age and is the next step up from Cubs. They are broken up into smaller groups of Scouts called Patrols, with a PL or Patrol Leader, who is in charge. Then we have the APL or Assistant Patrol Leader, who helps out the PL. Each patrol has a name usually an animal that is native to Australia. The leaderof the Scout Group is generally called Skip. But our Scout Leaders name is Badger (Phil). The assistant Scout Leaders also take a name of an Australian Animals or a nickname the Group will agree on. Our other leader is Nigel They also do badge work. and their award system is made of cords, the Red, Blue, and Green cords. They have to gain certain badges and a certain number of interest badges before they are awarded with a particular badge. The Scout Medallion is the highest award a Scout can get, until they move onto Venturers. Scouts generally camp at least once a term in tents and do many varied activities like abseiling, rock climbing, hiking, canoeing, knotting, first aid and mapping. |
