The Thornhills & Friends, Through the Years

They said, "I bet they'll never make it"
But just look at us holding on
We're still together still going strong

Ain't nothin' better
We beat the odds together
I'm glad we didn't listen
Look at what we would be missin'

Do you? I don't know, do you? Please, someone, speak now - don't forever hold your piece. At least I get a kiss out of it. Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. & Mrs. Mike D. Thornhill We're all in-laws now!
Group hug Everybody gather 'round. Boy, I'll be glad when all the white folks leave.

The joining of Tracey Ann Barbour and Michael David Thornhill in the bonds of holy matrimony happened on July 2, 1989. This followed a whirlwind courtship, commencing with the first night of Tracey's on-the-job training at radio station WKYK in Burnsville, followed shortly by a proposal at the Taco Bell restaurant across the street from the Johnson City Mall, and came just a month after Tracey's graduation from Mountain Heritage High School.

Rev. Howard Hanger of Jubilee! Community Church is the minister you'll see in many of the pictures. He arranged for us to use the picturesque front yard of Claxton Farm in Weaverville (thus, the llamas in the last picture). As you'll see in the pictures, it was a small ceremony, attended by:

  • The bride and groom
  • Howard
  • The bride's parents, Joan & Glenn Barbour
  • The groom's parents, Wilma & Don Thornhill
  • The groom's sister, Susan
  • The bride's and groom's friends, Tim & Jennifer
