Saturday June 10 2000 - Reunion Dinner!
After months of planning, Saturday June 10, 2000 finally arrived, and car
loads of ex Tieri-ites started rolling into town!
On Saturday evening we all met to collect our bottles of commemorative
wine, and enjoy dinner (and chatter, chatter, chatter!) at the Tieri Bowls
Club, considerably upmarket from the old Bowls Club which most of us
remembered!

The photo shows Quinkin (Frances Wregg) welcoming everybody, and testing
our memories with a Tieri Quiz between courses.

Sue Murray, Ruth Fontaine, Cheryl Randall, and Bev Calle renew their
friendships and remember the good times recorded in the "Tieri Guides and
Brownies History - Volume One".
We need a Tieri volunteer to start "Volume Two" ..

Sunday June 11 - Raising the Flag

The ceremonial raising of the flag at the Guide Hut started our day's
ceremonies.
Raising the flag are current Guides under the watchful eye of Ruth
Fontaine, current Leader Gayle Merrick, and Frances Wregg.
Ruth and Frances
were the only "old" leaders able to attend.

Sunday June 11 - Unearthing the Capsule
Remember this photo??
Not the egg of the great Brown Sixer
bird , but the original Time Capsule being buried!
Go look at this to see the Brownies
burying it in 1985.
I know it's there!
I KNOW it's there!
Thank GOODNESS it's there!
As if we ever doubted it!
Frances, alias Quinkin, turns the first clod off the capsule.

Over to the real work now, and time to call on Judy Egerton, 1985 President
of the Tieri Local Association.
We weren't sure how far Judy would have to dig, but some clever soul
(probably engineer Colin!) had thought to seal the hole with a concrete paver,
and put the capsule inside another piece of pipe, which really made it child's
play to remove!
And not too difficult for us either! Lucky!

So here it is - the Time Capsule!

So what was in the Time Capsule??
Amazingly everything in the capsule was in excellent condition! There were
notes from all the girls, Brownie dolls, photos and posters, etc.

Above are two of the Brownie contributions, from Marnie Worzfeld and
Nicole Smith, both of whom are currently overseas, and could not come.

And who came ?

This is a photo of the group taken after the Opening ceremony - see if you
can recognise them all???? Some of them??

Opening of the new Toilet AND Shower block!
The old toilet block we built was CONDEMNED! Do you remember it was bought
from the Education Department in 1985 after it was no longer required for the
original Oaky Creek School?
It has now been replaced by a new toilet block with showers too, so camps
will be much "cleaner" in future!

Gayle and her Brownies and Guides "can't wait" for the champagne
opening!

One Last Task .. tennis anyone?

Some of the original Tieri Tennis Club players had to have a game of tennis,
only to find that Joy hits the ball twice as hard as she used to!
Photo shows the Tennis Players of old, (or "old" tennis players?) :
Noeline Madden, Jimmy Bunt, Judy Smith, Harvey Smith, Noeline Bunt, Colin Wregg,
and Joy Hodges. Absent without leave: Bev Calle
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the organisation of the Reunion,
and to the Web site!
And a particular thanks to all those who made the effort to come to the Tieri
Girl Guides and Scouts Reunion - Queens Birthday weekend 2000 was a great
weekend!
