Objects and Creatures in Zork 3
Amulet
Found at the bottom of the Lake, and will put itself on one's arm. I do not know its purpose, and would be grateful for
Feedback.
Brass Lantern
AKA Lamp. Found at the bottom of the Endless Stairs.
Bread
Found under a tree at the Cliff. Given to the
Old Man in the Engraving Room.
Chest
Found on the Cliff Ledge. The Man will pull it up for you with the Rope, and then give you the
Staff.
Earthquake
Obviously an event rather than an object, but I don't have an events page. It will occur when you are in the Land of Shadows, and is a prerequisite to getting into the Great Door.

Gold Machine
Found in the Technology Museum. It is a time machine, and has three main parts.
The Dial can be set to whatever year you choose. When first found it is set to 948 GUE, which is presumably the current year.
The Seat can be lifted, and has a small compartment under it. The only way to transport objects is to put them into this compartment, and the only object which will fit is the
Ring.
The Button is pushed to set the machine in operation. It will move to the same location as it was when you first pushed the button and to whatever time you set. But once you get out of the machine it will take itself back to the Museum of Technology.
Grues
As in the other Zork games they live in dark places, and will eat you if you stay there two or more turns without a light of some kind.
Grue Repellant
Found in Room 8 in Zork 2 via the
Scenic Vista. Needed to get through the
Pitch Black Room. One will drop it when
On the Lake and have to dive for it and the
Amulet.
Hood and Cloak
Taken from the Hooded Figure after fighting him in the
Land of Shadows.
Hooded Figure
Found in the Land of Shadows. One must fight him, but not kill him, and Get the Hood and then the cloak when he is badly wounded and defenceless.
Key
Found, where else, in the Key Room.

Man
Not a very descriptive name, but there you are. He lurks at the
Cliff, and after one has climbed down the
Rope and tied it to the Chest he will pull it up. Then he will lower the rope again so that one can Get it and be pulled up to the top of the Cliff.
Manhole
Found in the Key Room and leads down (one way) to the
Aqueduct.
Old Man
Found from time to time in the Engraving Room. He is frail, and obviously in need of Bread.
Ring
Found initially with the rest of the Crown Jewels in the Jewel Room. It is the only one small enough to fit in the compartment under the seat of the
Gold Machine, and so the only which can be transported through time.
Roc and Giant Fish
Found in the Lake, and as one would expect one or the other will eat you if you spend too long swimming across or diving for the
Amulet and the Grue Repellant.
Rope
Found tied to one of the trees at the Cliff. Climb down it to get to the Cliff Ledge, and tie it to the
Chest so that the Man can pull it up. After Waiting for a while he will lower it again so that one can Get it and be pulled up to the top of the Cliff.
Sailor
Found at the Flathead Ocean. If one Says :"Hello Sailor" - I found the colon to be essential - he will throw a Vial on the sand.
Staff
Found in the Chest, qv for the explanation.
Elvish Sword
Found initially embedded in the Stone at the Junction. Not being King Arthur you can't pull it out, but it will appear in your hand when you meet the
Hooded Figure.
Table
Found in the Scenic Vista. Really a transporter machine. Touching the Table will take you to the place specified by the numbers on the wall.
Torch
Found in the Scenic Vista. The object of the first part of the game seems to be to get it to the Damp Passage
Vial
Thrown on to the sand at the Flathead Ocean by the
Sailor.
