What's New for 1997-1999

(nothing to do with Phil and Dixie)

11/10/99

A more-ish update. More creatures (lots of 'em) went into the Bestiary. More magic items and more spells went into the Grimoire. More links added to the gaming pages. More options added to the Random Fantasy Character Generator. And finally, No Night So Dark - another adventure, complete with NPCs and maps - was added.

11/9/99

Posted some new (actually rather old) Bryce pictures, to the Bryce Fantasy page and the Bryce Award Winners page. Added a swarm of new creatures to the Bestiary. Fixed some broken links. All good stuff, but no exceptional new sections like last time.

8/8/99

Hoo boy - another large update. The adventure "Ventner's Crag" was posted together with some supplementary historical material to set it in context. This is a huge multi level "dungeon-style" adventure. I also added the Magical Creatures section to the Bestiary and added a half dozen new creatures to each.

2/8/99

Maintenance - fixed some broken links, added the last of the material to the Grimoire. Added the NPC and finished the Hanged Man inn.

29/7/99

Added a site index to make navigating the site easier for visitors, plus more stuff on the Grimoire

24/7/99

Continuing with the Grimoire, I've added a bunch of stuff on designing and customising spells, designing magic systems and designing schools of magical practice. I've also added several sample magic systems including voodoo, D &D magic, Lovecraftian magic and more.

17/7/99

Hmm. Well the peripheral search sites have been malfunctioning, so they have been replaced with links to the central search engine, and all the broken links in the magic items section of the Ultimate Grimoire have been fixed. I've also added the pages on designing and customising spells to the Ultimate Grimoire and updated the information on magic in Gothick Empires to cross reference with the Grimoire and vice versa.

10/7/99

Continuing the flood of updates, I fixed some broken internal links (only 4 out of 5943!). More importantly, I've been using the dreaded cookies to see where people are actually visiting and found that much less than half my visitors come in via the home page. So... I've added search facilities to the pages that people surf in on the most, and some meta tags to the appropriate pages to guide surfers in the right direction. Finally, the magic items (over 300 of 'em) were added to the Ultimate Grimoire.

4/7/99

Another big update. The index by subject for the Ultimate Grimoire was posted, making it easier than ever to design a spell list for your spell-casting characters (and man, was that ever a lot of TEDIOUS work).

23/6/99

Oh ho! A big update this one, scores of pages and over a thousand links. Yes! The Ultimate Grimoire for Fantasy Hero is posted! Actually, right now the spellbook itself, plus the alphabetical index is posted. The supplementary rules, lists of magic items and index by subject will follow in shortish order.

17/5/99

Sigh. Another update, another apology. I haven't done as much on the site as I 'd like, but I've been as busy as a dysentery case with 3 arseholes. Kath and I have bought an apartment, we've been doing a bit of touring in Europe, and I've been helping organise not one, but two grant applications at work... Still, the Hanged Man inn went up in Gothick Empires on the new Adventures and Locations page, I started the Bestiary and added some new characters. Most importantly, I tested all the links on the site. Internally the site was OK (2712 links, of which only 6 were bad), but externally - hoo boy - over 300 links, and about a third of them down. So, I've checked them ALL, and they've all been fixed (for now). Also I've added a whole bunch of new and hopefully useful links.

15/3/99

Well, it's been a while, but I've been busy - I've completely redone the Bryce section, added some new artwork and removed a lot of the old stuff. From now on I'll try and keep the number of images down - adding only stuff I particularly like and removing older images.

8/2/99

Added the vegetation map and corrected the climate map on the Gothick Empires Geography page, plus some more characters to the Gothick Empires NPCs page. Did some all-round error-correcting and link-fixing.

24/1/99

Added a description of all the major races of Gorgamelle, some evil cults, sickness and disease and information on magic books to the Gothick Empires Characters page as well as pages describing magic and magicians in the Gothick Empires universe.

11/1/99

Fixed a couple of broken links on the Random Fantasy Character Generator (thanks to Fitz for spotting them).

8/1/99

The Random Fantasy Character Generator was finally bought into being and put up on the site. Hoo boy, if I had known how much work this was going to be when I started.....

13/12/98

More maps went up on the Gothick Empires pages, as well as some more characters.

9/12/98

People have been saying nice stuff about my artwork! I've been added to several people's art pages - you can read about it at the Bryce Page. There's also some new artwork. I've added more stuff to Gothick Empires, (mostly maps) and done a lot of work (mostly invisible, alas) cleaning up broken links.

22/11/98

Well, Gothick Empires is going strong. I added the core price lists, material on history, languages and basic notes on society. Also did some basic clean up on the Ring of Heroes to make everything work properly and added some notes to the house rules.

15/11/98

Started putting the Gothick Empires Campaign material up on the site. This is going to be a long term process, as and when I get a moment, so those of you who find it entertaining are advised to check back from time to time.

11/11/98

Well, those of you who care will notice that this site has been absent for a while. When I took all the pages down down to replace them with the new site, I discovered the computer I was using was sitting behind a firewall that blocked all FTP. It's taken me a while to get a new ISP (not the easiest thing in a country where your language ability is roughly the equal of a bright three year old's).

Anyway, I've taken advantage of the downtime to add some more stuff to the Sengoku page, the Gothick Empires character archive, and a ton of new artwork, plus beefing up the Links section.

Now that I'm online again, expect a burst of activity over the next month or so as things are expanded - particularly in the gaming section.

20/9/98

Hmm. Not exactly a sterling pace eh? All that's been added since last month is the character sheet for Hydra, a new archive for the many characters from Gothick Empires and a description of what I've been up to over the last few months.

20/8/98

Hem, hem! Well, has it really been so long? Well, hell, I've changed countries, homes, jobs and lifestyles over the last few months, and I've STILL found time to completely rewrite this site and write the a new website for my new workplace. So, what's changed during the long hiatus?

  • The whole site has been rewritten from stem to stern, and given a spiffy new entry page.
  • All the gaming stuff has been consolidated to make it easier to navigate. The Sengoku section has been cleaned up, new fiction and characters added, plus a bunch of other stuff. The character archive has been enlarged.
  • The Bryce gallery has been greatly enlarged and completely rewritten
  • The Links section has been rewritten, bad links removed, new ones added etc.

27/3/98

Well, the Bryce Gallery (now expanded to include 3 annexes!) is the only thing that's gotten much attention recently. Gaming - and thus Sengoku - has wound down a bit these days, though hopefully we can remedy this in the near future, Also, I'm trying to learn Danish, which has cut into my leisure (read page-maintaining) time a bit.

22/2/98

Hoo boy! Life is pretty hectic, these days. I finally got the Bryce Gallery fixed up, with some pretty pictures for your amusement (Beware! Graphics intensive!). What with buying a new car, going skiing, visiting friends in North Carolina and starting to organise our departure to Europe, that's about all I've gotten done. I've also added some new Sengoku fiction, and done away with the "what I've been up to" page, since I couldn't be bothered maintaining it and I doubt anyone read it anyway.

8/2/98

A maintenance update mostly, although I've expanded the links section of the page greatly. This is an ongoing thing, so I'll continue to plug away at this - expect to see the comics, friend's home pages and gaming sections expand greatly over the next week or so as I bring all the links into some sort of order. I'll also be annotating links (at some point) to make things more useful to other people. Still, at least the links are up and functional now. I also added some more characters to the character archive.

24/1/98

Hmm. I'm afraid the ol' page has languished while I've been spending time on a new toy - Bryce 3-D, a marvellous piece of 3-D landscape rendering software. Still, I've not been entirely idle. The Chinese are here! I've added a whole bunch of chinese sorcerors, martial artists and warriors to the Sengoku NPC page in preparation for the players' overseas adventures. Added some new Sengoku fiction, bringing Yoshi and Nishi into contact with the missing Gohei. Finally, I've also fixed a few more broken links (sigh). A webmaster's work is never done.....

2/1/98

Well! The new year! Redid the Sengoku index to include a link to background on Japan, including new, large maps, a glossary and information about social and political structure, history, trade and law enforcement in Sengoku era Japan. I'm continuing to do research on this and will be expanding things as I go along, but at least the basic structure is up now.

21/12/97

Added a link to the Sengoku Introduction tying the Sengoku page into the Ring of Heroes.

19/12/97

Damage control time. Fixed a bunch of broken or wrong-pointing links, some spelling errors and other bad stuff plus uploaded a couple of new characters to the character archive. Thanks to the guys who let me know about broken links, they should all be working now.

6/12/97

Updated the Sengoku house rules to include rules for mounted combat. Added the area map for Hikone, the setting for the second half of adventure 10. Added a bunch of low-level mercenary FH characters to the character archive.

29/11/97

Added a bunch more characters from my Gothick Empires FH game to the character archive. Probably not the most productive use of my time. Does anyone read this stuff? Added some more Sengoku fiction - the Death of Jiro.

15/11/97

Added the superhero roster to the character archive (all except Hydra, who is still being played, and who wants to keep a few secrets right now!). Added some more information to the Sengoku house rules page. Added a new Yoshi/Rinzo story to the Sengoku fiction archive.

11/11/97

Finally finished the Sengoku magic rules, plus a gaggle of new magic-using NPCs. Also added some more characters from my Gothick Empires FH game to the character archive.

29/10/97

Added some more fantasy hero characters from my Gothick Empires game to the character archive.

14/10/97

Added the rest of the martial artists to the character archive. Uploaded some new Sengoku Fiction, detailing the escape of the samurai from the Somo's stronghold with Prince Heihachiro, and the beginning of Nishi and Yoshi's trek southwards.

11/10/97

Added some more K5 characters and a bunch of martial artists, plus the first Gothick Empires character to the character archive.

9/10/97

Added a character archive to display characters from various games.

5/10/97

Added maps (and links) for the fishing village in adventure 7 and Orchid temple from adventure 9.

4/10/97

Added a "What's New" page. But then you've already found that out, haven't you? The dates are international rather than US format. Deal with it.

Added new Sengoku Fiction - a ghost story starring Nishi/Rinzo

Corrected some broken links off the Hero page

Added an update on the new job and sundry other household happenings
