Midnight Ramblings:

In my Opinion (IMHO) John Dailey's Dungeon Master is one of the BEST Online Games to come out in along time. Not only is it a Refreshing change of pace from the Standard Text based, menu driven games that are modeled after Seth Able's "master-piece", but it is a Game Engine designed to run individule modules created with the DM Construction set which make the number and variety of potential games almost endless! DM isn't limited to online systems either and can easily be set-up for "local" play on a minimal system.

The addition of IGMs (or whatever a door author chooses to call the In Game Add-Ons) has inspired alot of people to create add-ons or games within games. The DMCS is not unlike that with the exception that (without ANY programing knowledge) it is now possible to create an Entire Game! Not only that, but John has offered to give FREE REGISTRATIONS (for both the DM Engine and Construction Set) to Anyone who creates an Original DM Module of their own! As more people discover this great game and make their modules to get the Free Registrations the available module list is sure to grow with as wid a variety of games to be played as their are people to play them.

The DM Environment:

The Dungeon Master Environment is unlike any other Door Game! With "Solid" 3D Ansi Graphics and Ansi Sound you actually View the "World" around you with some of the Best ANSI Graphic Images around. You will also "hear" your weapons strike the monsters, spells being cast, music, etc., etc . (Most terminals support the ANSI Sound and a Sound Card isn't required... there is also a sound toggle if you don't wish to have sound). You will View Images of your character, weapons, armour, the creatures and characters you encounter. There is also an auto-mapping feature that records the areas you have been to and any special features the module maker wishes to reveal.
Using a First Person perspective (not unlike many popular 3D platform games) you'll be able to walk (or run) through many different types of worlds. Depending upon what the individual module offers, it can be filled with anything from lots of hack and slash fun, simple or difficult puzzles to solve, or even a laugh riot of ridiculous scenarios...
There is also extensive Online in Game HELP available at anytime simply by pressing or . It is also set-up so when you start a game the DM Players Guide can be downloaded from within the door and if the Module maker has created a specific guide for his\her module it is available for download from within the game also simply by pressing .

The DM Construction Set:

If you've ever wanted to create your own game the Dungeon Master Construction Set just maybe what you're looking for. Without having to know an ounce of programing language you can easily make modules you can play with the Dungeon Master Game Engine! Anyone can do it! (My 8 year old son is even trying his hand at it and not doing a bad job of it either)
The DMCS comes complete with a sample game you can use and modify to get a feel for how to make your own module as well as sensitive help available from all the editing screens and extensive documentation.
It also has it's own "Library" of Images, Items, Spells, Monsters, Walls, and Sounds that you can be used either as is or as a template to Create your own. You can Create you Own Maps or use the Random Map Generator to create the Maps which are really the key to building a World. The Maps are the key to building games. You create your game by adding "Specials" to your maps with the Action and Condition Picklist... basically the picklist does the real programing for you.
You can even define your text editor, image editor, sound editor, and other programs or batch files you may want to use or acces while you are in the Construction Set through the Configurable Utilities Options.
There are alot of things you can do with it, start with some of the simplest Actions to get a feel for it (using F1 for help that's sensitive to the Action or Condition you're trying to edit) and you'll soon realize John has give his DMCS alot of power at your finger tips to make your game as simple or as complex as you want. The only thing I see that you maybe limited by is your Imagination.... Don't let it intimidate you... like I said Anyone can do it EVEN my 8 year old! Check out the
Books of Blood Page for to Information, Cluebooks and downloads of my modules and how I approached building my first module.
