Old Ramblings about the BBS

Midnight's Realm BBS

When I did my recent upgrade the BBS was down for about a week and I was just about to shut it down... but the few loyal users I still have asked me to stay online since I was virtually the last game BBS still online in the city. So Midnight's Realm is STILL online in Albuquerque, NM. (505)254-9415... with some of the BEST online games and graphics ANYWHERE!

BBS Resources:

These are but a few of the Best Sites to visit for BBS & Sysop Resources. Rather than list all that I find I am just listing the ones I've found to be the most useful.

The BBS Corner
One of the Best Sites for BBS Info on the Web. Links and information on many aspects of Bulletin Boards - including BBS software, BBS doors. Features things such as How to connect your BBs to the Internet and more including an up-to-date list of telnettable BBS's.

BBSREF
The most complete reference of Bulletin Board Software on the Web! Hundreds of BBS software packages listed with descriptions and where to find them. The BBS packages are listed both by name and by operating system for your convenience.

BBSDirect
Register many doors and utilities online.

 DDS DOORS Homepage
The primary site of the File Distribution Network this is a Great Resource for those looking to find the most recent doors as they are released as well as offering a place for authors to upload thier new releases and updates. There are many files available including many utilities and Freeware Files that are very organized and easy to access. It also has information and links for fidonet.

The Electronic Bulletin Board Resource Page
The Electronic Bulletin Board Resource Page is an intuitive resource for the advid BBSer. I provide files, links and documents, all of which pertain to operating, maintaining or calling Bulletin Board systems. The site is fluid, efficient, and a notable resource of its users.

COCA: Council for Online Community Alternatives
A Group formed by Bulletin Board System Operators and Enthusiast with a common goal to keep BBSing Alive!

User Resources:

To Connect to a BBS through direct dial-up through your modem you'll need a communications terminal. Your system and modems normally come with one, but they are usually lacking in features. There are few you can download here as well as some places you can to go find them.

- Available in DOS, Windows 3.1 & Windows 95
- Software is also good for Internet access (PPP, etc) as well as BBSes.

IRC Chat:

Internet Relay Chat is another resource for both Sysops and Users that gives you the oportunity to chat live with other sysops, users and authors.
I've recently begun to hang out in the Sysop's Lounge a bit. There is almost always a lively group there that can help you if not entertain you. There are also conferences there that feature moderated question and answer sessions with popular Door Authors that almost always have some free registrations to give away at the end.

Go to irc.sysopnet.org and Join Channel #bbs

If you need an IRC client the CWS IRC Apps Page is the place to find one.
