RollerCoaster Tycoon is, to put it simply, one of the most entertaining and
most addicting games I have played in recents years, or maybe even ever. But
when you first look at the games premise, it seems little more than a
time-waster, something you would do when you got bored. Ok, so building
rollercoasters in a toy-like world sounds fun, for a little while. But is that
all there is to the game? Nope. There is much more.
Roller Coaster Tycoon is deep, challenging, yet entirely playable. The actual
premise of the game is not only to build rollercoasters, but to manage an
entire amusement park complete with staff (handymen, mechanics, security
guards, entertainers), guest services and facilities, and all different types
of rides. Not every guest loves the pulse-pounding excitement of a coaster;
maybe they just want to go the merry-go-round. Or the swinging ship. Or the
3-D Movie Cinema.
Oh, and there's more, too. A major part of playing RCT is managing your green.
That's right, you have money to worry about! What the hell did you think this
was? Keeping track of your money is cool though. Spending it is even better.
Like when you build a coaster. Ok, its got a high excitement rating, but not
many people know about it unless they come to the park. So what do you do?

The true value of RCT is not in designing coasters or telling a janitor to
sweep up virtual vomit. The true value of RCT is its lasting appeal. You can
play this game for a while and not get bored of it, simply because it is so
fun, and has such great diversity.
In short: This game is not a Theme Park clone. It is an original game with more
of an emphasis on designing great rides to entertain your guests.
