Workshops

I served time as Producer of the CBC's flagship news programme The National and as Executive Producer, CBC TV News, Ottawa.

Due to unusually benign neglect on the part of CBC, I was its Coordinator and Executive Producer, TV Journalism Training, for 10 years. Then I noticed the time and quit to form my own broadcast journalism and communications training and consulting company.

Since 1988, tim knight + associates has trained thousands of professional working journalists around the world.

Among the assignments: lead trainer on hundreds of Canadian TV Journalism Workshops; the US (consulting PBS news and current affairs trainer for five years); Jamaica (JBC); Mauritius (MaBC); Ghana; Finland (MTV); Spain (RTVE); Ireland (RTE); Russia; Germany; Bosnia and Herzegovina and South Africa (SABC and e-TV). In fact, we were the first training group called in by the South African Broadcasting Corporation's TV journalists to prepare them to cover their first-ever democratic election. We returned for further training workshops over eight years.

Among professional journalistic organizations we've worked with are the Canadian Association of Journalists; the Commonwealth Journalists Association; the International Film & Television Workshop (Rockport, Maine); Journalists for Human Rights; Radio and Television News Directors Association; and INPUT, the international Public TV Producer's Convention.

In Canada we've worked with CBC; CTV; TV-5; Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN); The Sports Network (TSN); TVOntario; Radio-Canada; Radio-Québec; TVA; Vision-TV; the Discovery Channel; Cottage Life; Videotron; the National Aboriginal Communications Society; Wawatay; Shaw Cable; the Inuit Broadcasting Corporation; Thomson Newspapers; The Globe & Mail; the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA); The International Bureau for Human Resource Development; the Ontario Human Rights Commission; the RCMP; the Body Shop; Consumers Gas; and the Bank of Montreal, among others.
