I served time as Producer of the CBC's flagship news programme The National and as Executive Producer, CBC TV News, Ottawa. Due to unusually benign neglect on the part of CBC, I was its Coordinator and Executive Producer, TV Journalism Training, for 10 years. Then I noticed the time and quit to form my own broadcast journalism and communications training and consulting company.
Among the assignments: lead trainer on hundreds of Canadian TV Journalism Workshops; the US (consulting PBS news and current affairs trainer for five years); Jamaica (JBC); Mauritius (MaBC); Ghana; Finland (MTV); Spain (RTVE); Ireland (RTE); Russia; Germany; Bosnia and Herzegovina and South Africa (SABC and e-TV). In fact, we were the first training group called in by the South African Broadcasting Corporation's TV journalists to prepare them to cover their first-ever democratic election. We returned for further training workshops over eight years. Among professional journalistic organizations we've worked with are the Canadian Association of Journalists; the Commonwealth Journalists Association; the International Film & Television Workshop (Rockport, Maine); Journalists for Human Rights; Radio and Television News Directors Association; and INPUT, the international Public TV Producer's Convention.
I was keynote speaker at the 25th anniversary celebration of INPUT, the week-long international TV conference devoted to TV as public service. The event was held in Rotterdam and attended by nearly 1,000 TV producers, directors and writers from some 40 countries. ... more Last
