«Bonder»
Trinari dangled her feet into the lake’s clear water and looked about at the lounging dragons, thinking or how soon she may be accompanying her own dragon down to these shores. Leiner warbled happily and Trinari stroked his head absently. She’d been at the Caer for almost three months now and she’d run out of things to do after the first month. She’d explored every hallway possible and read so many books that if she picked up another one, her head might actually explode. Bonder training also had begun to bore her once they got past the dragon anatomy section but she knew that the eggs were hardening fast to the hatching probably wouldn’t be too far off. Leiner bit her hand lightly and brought her back to reality. “Leiner what the hell?” She cried out as she rubbed her hand. The bronze warbled and looked to his right. Trinari followed his gaze and blushed when she saw that a young man was standing there, trying to hide a smile. “Oh, umm, sorry I didn’t know you were there.”
He smiled and said, “So I had noticed. Sorry I had to have your lizard bite you to get you attention.”
She nodded and stood up. “It’s alright. I’m Trinari by the way, who are you?”
The man put his hand out and Trinari took it. “Julti, pleased to meet you. You’re new around here aren’t you?”
She nodded and said, “Yes, I got here about three months ago. I’m standing for purple Saiayth’s clutch.”
Julti nodded in acknowledgement and said, “Ah yes, Saiayth. She wasn’t very happy about letting her eggs bond. But then again, no female really is. The hatching will be interesting though I think.”
Trinari nodded and asked, “Are you a bonder too?”
He shrugged and said, “I probably should be. I’ve been here long enough and stood for so many clutches I probably could have three dragons by now. I’ve just been kind of hanging around here for the part four months though.”
Trinari frowned and said, “I’m sure you’ll bond soon then, if you’ve been here for so long.”
He nodded and said, “I hope so. Caer life without a dragon is boring me out of my mind.”
She laughed and nodded. “I know exactly what you mean. I’ve only been here for three months and I’m almost ready to go home.
They were both silent for a moment and then Julti asked, “Would you like to join me for dinner tonight?”
Trinari felt herself blushing and was about to think up some excuse as usual but then decided against it. “Ummm, sure why not?”
Julti smiled and said, “Alright I’ll come and get you round seven ok?”
Trinari nodded and asked, “You know which room I’m in?”
He shrugged again and said, “It won’t be that hard to figure out, you’re room number is right next to your name on the bonding sheet.”
She laughed and then said, “Ok, well I’ll see you at seven then.”
As Trinari was putting her hair up she heard a knock on the door and sighed. “I’m not even going to have time to finish my hair,” she said sadly. She shrugged, took the few pins out that were already in place, shook her hair out with her hands and then went to the door, letting Julti in.
He smiled and said, “You look nice.” She smiled and he said, “Did you have your hair down before?”
She shook her head and said, “No I didn’t have time to put it up just now.”
He nodded in understanding and said, “Well I think I like it better down.”
She smiled again and then asked, “So are we going to eat?”
He laughed and said, “Of course, let’s go.” When they reached the Caer dining hall Trinari was about to pick out a table but Julti held her back. “We’re not eating here, I just have to pick up the food.”
Trinari raised an eyebrow and said, “If we’re not here where are we eating?”
He shrugged and said, “You’ll see.”
She rolled her eyes and waited until a drudge brought over their food. Julti took it from him and then said, “Alright let’s go.” Trinari followed him from the dining hall and they were about halfway out of the Caer when a young boy stopped them. “Are you Trinari?” He asked. She nodded and he continued on by saying, “You may have to wait to eat then. The eggs are going to hatch shortly.”
She blinked in confusion and asked, “Are you sure? They aren’t supposed to hatch for another week.”
The boy nodded and said, “Yes I’m sure. The Caerlady just told me to round up all the bonders so you’d better get down to the dunes.”
Trinari looked to Julti and was about to apologize but he put his hand up and said, “No don’t worry. We’ll go later. You’d better get down there though, the eggs won’t wait on you.” She smiled and then dashed off towards the dunes, where she would hopefully bond a dragonet.
