«Sr. Fledgling»

Trinari stroked Leiner and watched as her dragon dragged another beast from the herd. “How many is that?” She asked as she shifted her position on the grass.

Jaipurath shrugged mentally and said, “Four so far and I was planning on getting another after this one.”

Trinari shook her head and said, “No you’ve already had four and if this is your fifth then you’re done after you finish this one alright?” Her dragon may be large of size but six beasts would weigh down even the largest dragon.

Her dragon looked up from her spot on one of the feeding ledges and said, “I thought you would say that, but I will not try to push the issue any farther I suppose.”

Trinari laughed and asked, “When you’ve finished that one and you’ve digested would you like to go to the lake later?” She had met a young bluerider there the other day and she was hoping to see him again.

About twenty minutes later Jaipurath flew down from her ledge and landed in front of her rider. She allowed Leiner to land on her neck and then asked, “Can we go now? I’ll just lie by the side and digest there.”

Trinari nodded and said, “Yes that’s fine. Will you kneel down Jai? You’re getting so big I can barely mount, and you’re only a senior fledgling.”

Jaipurath snorted and said, “Yes I think I will be large of size but I don’t know how my T-power and ability to breath fire will be. As for kneeling down I don’t think I will, but I will raise my leg. I’m only going to get bigger so you need to adjust to climbing up to my back on your own.”

Trinari smiled and patted her dragon on the leg before climbing up and sitting between two of the ridges. “Alright, let’s go,” she said as she grabbed Leiner and placed him in her lap. Jaipurath warbled and leapt off of the ground, heading for the lake.

As she landed a few of the male dragons warbled a greeting to her and Trinari smiled. “You’re quite the popular one aren’t you Jai?”

The gold let her rider dismount and then followed her to their usual spot by the side of the lake. “Yes I am with the males but most of the females don’t seem to like me. You are also popular with the males Trinari,” she said as she sat down and let her tail hang in the water.

Trinari frowned and said, “I highly doubt that Jai but thank you. The only male I’ve actually talked to since I got here was that bluerider. I haven’t had the time to meet anyone else.”

Jaipurath shrugged mentally and said, “Just because you don’t talk to them doesn’t mean they don’t take notice of you rider-mine.”

Trinari sighed and said, “I know that Jaipurath but you would think that if they had any interest in me they would at least approach me.”

The gold shrugged again and looked towards the group of males that were talking near the other side of the lake. “Why don’t you go over there and talk to them?”

Trinari followed her dragon’s gaze and then shook her head. “I can’t do that Jaipurath, I would freeze up like always and I’d look like a stupid wherry.”

Jaipurath could see that she wasn’t going to get her to go to them so she bespoke the males, telling a few of them to come strike up a conversation with her shy bond mate. “It seems like a few of them are heading this way,” she commented as she looked back at her rider.

Trinari looked up at the approaching men and then she turned her gaze to her dragon. “Why did you do that?” She asked, though she was grateful for her dragon’s help.

Jaipurath shrugged and slid into the water. “I will be back momentarily, there is a brown here that I am quite fond of.”

Trinari smiled and scratched Leiner under his chin, trying to relax as she heard the riders come closer. One of them cleared his throat when he was close enough and Trinari looked up, startled to see that they were standing right by her. “I’m B’tan, rider brown Varshanth. This is B’land, rider of bronze Cytonath.”

She stood up and said, “I’m Trinari and I ride gold Jaipurath.” She looked out at her dragon in time to see her swim up to a large group of males. You make it look so easy, she said to her dragon.

Jaipurath crooned and said, It is easy if you know how to go about it. She looked towards her rider for a moment, but then turned attention to the males again.

B’tan rubbed his chin and asked, “You ride Jaipurath? My Varshanth won’t shut up about her.”

Trinari laughed and said, “Really? Now which one is Varshanth?” She turned towards the lake and looked at the dragon B’tan pointed at. He was small in size and Trinari frowned slightly when she saw this. “That one?” She asked as she brushed a strand of hair out of her face. “The small brown there?”

B’tan nodded and said, “Yes, but size isn’t everything you know.”

Trinari nodded and said, “Yes I know. I’m sorry if I offended you.” She put her hair up as the strand fell back into her face and then asked, “Which one is your dragon B’land?”

He smiled and pointed to a bronze fledgling, who was lying by the side of the lake. “He’s only a hatchling, but he’s already started emitting smoke and sparks of flame,” he said proudly.

Trinari raised an eyebrow and asked, “Really? How is that possible?” She had heard about dragons that began to flame early, but flaming while still a junior fledgling was unheard of.

He was about to say something else when he stopped and looked towards his dragon. “I’m sorry,” he said. “But Cytonath wants to go. I’ll talk to you tomorrow or something.”

Trinari waved and then turned back to B’tan, who smiled and said, “Would you mind if I came up to your caer later tonight?”

Trinari raised an eyebrow in surprise and said, “Well you move quick don’t you?” She looked out in the direction of her dragon, and was startled to see she was already looking towards her.

B’tan put his hands up in defense and said, “I’m sorry Trinari. Maybe we could have lunch or something instead?”

She shook her head and said, “No it’s fine B’tan. Come up later if you want. I don’t have anything to do so I’ll be there all night.”

He smiled and said, “Alright I’ll come by around nine or so. However, right now I have to get to senior fledgling training.”

She nodded and waved as he jogged off to collect his dragon and then sat down. That wasn’t that hard, she told Jaipurath as Leiner landed on her leg.

Jaipurath swam towards her rider and said, “I did not think he would make that move but I see that you didn’t object.”

Trinari nodded and said, “Yes I know Jai. I think that it will be good for me though.” She was quiet for a moment and then asked, “Why did you choose him? I mean, why did you choose a small sized dragon?”

Jaipurath shrugged mentally and climbed out of the lake, shaking the water from her hide. “Size isn’t everything Trinari. I mean, it would matter in a mating flight because he’d be too small to physically catch me but it doesn’t matter now.”

Trinari nodded and said, “Yes I suppose you’re right.” She gestured for her to raise her leg and climbed up to her dragon’s back. “I’ve got to get going, it’s alright eight o’clock and he said he’d be up there around nine.”

Jaipurath took off when her rider was seated and then landed lightly in their caer. “Do you think he’ll bring Varshanth with him?”

Trinari dismounted and said, “I don’t know but we’ll find out soon. Let me know when he gets here alright?” Jaipurath nodded slightly and Trinari walked out of the room, heading for the bathroom.

An hour later Jaipurath warbled loudly and Trinari looked up from she was doing. “He is here,” she said. “I’m sending him in,” she added.

Trinari nodded and smiled as he walked through the door. He walked towards her and kissed her lightly on the forehead, causing her to blush. “Evening,” he said as he sat down in the chair across from her. “Sorry, I’m a little early,” he said.

She shook her head and said, “It’s fine.” They were both silent for a moment and then she said, “So tell me about yourself.”

They talked for about an hour or so and then B’tan abruptly stopped mid-sentence. Trinari raised an eyebrow in surprise and walked over to him when he gestured to her. “What?” she asked him, getting a little nervous. He smiled again, pulling her down to him and kissing her.

She pulled away gently but he still held onto her wrists. “I’d like to stay the night, if that’s alright.” She smiled and nodded, leading him to the bedchamber.
