The Kabuki Actors ²ÎÉñ´ìÇÐÍ¥ |
These names are not ranked in order of popularity or importance. Of course, my favourite actors are the younger ones just above, but in respect of the elder actors, the younger ones will be placed after them. **Please note that in the Nikkan Sports article dated 30/3/01, Itikawa Shinnosuke will be changing his name soon to ITIKAWA EBIZO in 2004, along with Tatsunosuke. So I guess the "Three Sukes" term will not be used anymore! :) Also, Nakamura Kankuro will change his name to Nakamura Kanzaburo. |

It is with great sadness to announce the demise of Nakamura Utaemon, one of the most prolific Onnagata performers in Kabuki history. He is featured in many of our informative and rare textbooks on Kabuki (not many will show you their secrets of putting on make up!). He will be succeeded by his eldest son, Nakamura Baigyoku. Again, I have to announce the demise of Itikawa Uzaemon (84 years old).He died of lung cancer and was a National Living Treasure in Japan. |
