Gendou Ikari as Commander in Chief of NERV and member of SEELE, is very rational and efficient. He sees his son Shinji as nothing more than a tool that is to be used for whatever purpose he sees fit. He left his son after the death of his wife, Yui Ikari in a freak accident. Gendou shows more attention to Rei Ayanami, treating her in some ways like a daughter. He Met his wife at Tokyo-2 University, and took her sirname.  It seems that Gendou has his own hidden agenda revolving around the Evangelions, the Instrumentality Project, and the Angels. It is shrouded in mystery as to what his purposes are. He witnessed the second impact 15 years ago.

HIS PAST

Student at Tokyo-2 University Gendou Rungobunki was a rebel in trouble with police. He met Yui Ikari at University, and was introduced to Professor Kohzoh Foyutsuki. Marrying Yui Ikari, taking her sirname, and having a child, Shinji, they went to antarctica to research the newly discovered angel. Leaving the Antarctica research team just a day before second impact. His wife was killed in an accident related to Evangelion. At about this time Rei I appeared, where a father daughter relationship seemed to be present. He left his son and continued reaserch of Angels. Using Naoko Akagi to his advantage the Magi Super-Comtuter was completed.
