Shinji, son of commander Gendou Ikari, chief of Nerv, is the pilot of Evangelion Unit 01. Shinji lived alone after the death of his mother untill the age of 14 when he was asked suddenly by his father to come to Tokyo-3, and thrust into the position of piloting Eva Unit 01.It is unclear why he lived away from his Father. He talks of Abandonment. In Tokyo-3 he took residence in Misato Katsuragi's apartment. He has a quiet and submissive character with a deep hatred for his father due to his neglect. Shinji Ikari is the Third child selected by the "Marduk Report"and is the pilot assigned to Evangelion Unit 01.  The technicians of Evangelion say he was "born to pilot Evangelion." However, it's still unclear if this is because of his talent or the power of Evangelion Unit 01.

HIS PAST

Shinji lived alone in an apartment in Musashino City in Tokyo-1 since his Mother(Yui Ikari)'s death in a freak accident envolving evangelion in 2004.
