Rei Ayanami

Rei is a very quiet girl who doesn't talk much and is almost albino in appearance (red eyes and pale white skin). Her personality makes it difficult to make new friends and she lives alone in an apartment in a run down section of Tokyo-3. She is a student at Tokyo-3 Jr. Highschool before Shinji arrives. Rei is the first Child to be identified by the Marduk report. She pilots Unit 00 following Gendou Ikari's orders without question. Gendou seems to treats Rei as his own daughter, but then has no problem sending her out to battle, in what will most likely be her death. In the first episode of the series Rei is already wounded, from an Eva related accident.

HER PAST

Among the most mysterious characters, her career and genetic background have been erased from the records. She transfered to Tokyo-3 muncipal Jr. Highschool in 7th grade when she began training for Project-EVA when it was in it's early stages and was trained specifically for piloting Eva. A week before Shinji's arrival at NERV she was wounded by the accident during a boot-up experiment, and was hospitalized.

A human is created by a human. What's in myself is life, mind, the container of mind, the entry plug. That is the place for the spirit. Who is this? This is me Who am I? What's me What's me... I am me. This object is me. The form which creates me. A Visible me. But I feel it's not like me. Very strange.I feel like my body's melting. I start losing my identity. My shape starts to disappear .I feel someone other than me. Is someone there? If I go forward? Ikari? I know her, Officer Katsuragi. Dr. Akagi. Everyone. Classmates. Pilot of unit 2. Commander Ikari.
