SAN JOSE – San Jose SaberCats receiver/linebacker James Roe, who led the club in receptions during the regular season, was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and Ironman of the Year in a vote of his teammates. The awards were presented at the franchise’s annual banquet.
After sustaining a concussion on San Jose’s first offensive series of the season and missing nearly three full games, Roe returned to the lineup and led the club with 113 catches and 31 touchdowns while posting 27.0 tackles, four pass breakups, two forced fumbles and an interception on defense.
“I can’t take the credit myself for these awards,” said Roe, his voice swelling with emotion. “These guys have more confidence in me than I have in myself at times. I appreciate these guys and how they feel about me.” Read On

Chicago – The Chicago Rush announced today it has placed lineman Khreem Smith on the Arena Football League’s exempt roster after Smith signed a two-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings.
Smith (6-4, 270, Oklahoma State) finished his rookie season as the AFL leader in forced fumbles (6) and ranked second in the AFL in sacks (8.0). He also recorded 22.5 tackles, two passes broken up and one blocked kick. His sack total is the third-highest single-season total in Rush history, behind John Moyer’s 10 sacks in 2004 and nine in 2003.
At the conclusion of the regular season, Smith was named Second Team All-Arena and to the AFL’s All-Rookie team. Read On
