Lions pounce on Argos early in win

B.C. Lions

VANCOUVER (CP) - The British Columbia Lions are taking adversity to a new level, but this time they found a way to win.

Last week the defence let them down in Regina. This time the offence stalled late and the defence bailed the Lions out in a 26-19 victory over the Toronto Argonauts on Friday.

B.C. quarterback Dave Dickenson was nearly perfect in the first half as he staked the Lions to a 23-0 lead.

However, a right knee injury kept him out most of the second half and the Argos rallied to within seven points before a Robert Baker fumble inside the B.C. 20 yard line ended the threat.

''I think if I had come out in the second half and played my game, we could have made this a whole lot easier,'' said Dickenson who threw for touchdowns to Geroy Simon on the Lions' first two possessions. Read On

Stamps beat Tiger-Cats on late field goal

Calgary Stampeders

CALGARY (CP) - It's a good thing Sandro DeAngelis likes being under pressure. He got his share of it on Thursday night.

DeAngelis kicked a 45-yard field goal on the last play of the game to give the Calgary Stampeders a 23-22 victory over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

With Hamilton leading 21-20 late in the game, Ticat kicker Jason Boreham missed a 42-yard field goal and had to settle for just a single. Taking over the ball with 13 seconds left at their own 35-yard line, Calgary quarterback Henry Burris completed a 13-yard pass to Markus Howell and a 24-yard pass to Ken-Yon Rambo to put the Stamps within field-goal range.

''You've got to credit Hank and the boys and coach (Steve) Burrato for calling up the plays,'' said DeAngelis. ''When you're a kicker, this is what you dream for. I live for these moments. That 10 seconds prior to the kick and that 10 seconds afterwards, I wish I could bottle that feeling up and drink it on a daily basis. It's a lot of fun and I really enjoy the pressure.'' Read On
