The Cologne Centurions got a valuable opening day victory on the road, defeating the Hamburg Sea Devils 14-10 on the back of a big day from twin running backs Fred Russell (St Louis Rams) and Alex Haynes (Carolina Panthers). Russell gained 85 yards on the night, and Haynes chipped in with 41 more and the game-winning touchdown to snuff out the Sea Devils. The win gave David Duggan the perfect start to his head coaching career in Cologne.

When Cologne’s national tight end Werner Hippler ran onto the field he was making his 88th NFL Europe League appearance, passing former Scottish Claymores wideout Scott Couper’s mark of 87. Read On

In leading their team to a valuable opening night victory, Berlin passers Lang Campbell (Cleveland Browns) and B.J. Symons (Chicago Bears) looked efficient under center, combining to throw for 227 yards and three touchdowns.

And while the Thunder showed mid-season form on the offensive side of the ball, they were also able to back it up with some key plays on defense, intercepting Amsterdam quarterbacks Gibran Hamdan (Seattle Seahawks) and Reggie Robertson (Oakland Raiders) three times. Read On
