Rare Natural Oregon US Orange Opal

True Fire Orange Color

Natural Precious Opal This warm, marquise cab Orange Opal comes from the Opal Butte Mine in central Oregon. It also has weak yellow-green flash seen from at least two directions. It is found in the same hard rhyolite matrix characteristic as most American opal, making mining more costly and difficult, but it's fiery color makes it well worth the effort. Fire opal (honey, orange, red, sometimes with green and other colors of flash) is often a little harder and more durable than precious opal which has more water in it.

The particular mine once provided gems to Tiffany & Co. about 100 years ago, when Tiffany once promoted fine American gems, among the rest of its fine colored gemstone jewelry.
