PICTURES OF OLD CLITHEROE

 

Clitheroe is a thriving market town with some 15,000 inhabitants.  Whereas much of the town centre appears little changed over the last 100 years, in reality the town has a very different character. In 1900 the town had 13 mills doing mostly weaving. Now there is but one mill – Thornber’s Mill. Some of the other mill buildings have survived and are now used for other purposes, but most have been demolished. In the pictures below are shown Clitheroe as it was 90 – 100 years ago.
