The Traitor: |
|
After a successful first season, The Traitor comes back
with new players, new tasks, and new deceit. Thanks to everyone
who made season one a success!
|
Applications: |
|
Applications were opened July 31st. Over a ten
days span fifty applications were received, at which point
applications were closed (August 9th.) Thanks to everyone who
applied. 25 of the original fifty applications were cut, leaving
25 applications left for the second round.
|
Interviews: |
|
The 25 people who made the first cut were sent an
interview. Because the interviews were so well done the number
of players in the game was expanded from 14 to 16. The
interviews were used to decide who was cut, who is playing, and who is
the Traitor.
|
Game Start: |
|
The players that were selected to play were
sent an email instructing them to locate the game's message board
using provided clues. Those who failed would be automatically
removed from the game.
|

|
Segment One
|
|
|
Welcome: |
|
The players were
announced and the game began immediately.
|
In the Beginning: |
|
The Players were
given a list of clues to help them get to the message board where the
remainder of the game will task place. Although all of the
players made it, no money was won.
|
Practice: |
|
Task 2 told the
players that one of them was not real, a fake concocted by the host to
throw them off. If the players could not decide who was the fake
amongst themselves, two people would be executed, instead of one.
Accusations flew, no one was safe from suspicion. Just like the
rest of the game should be. It was good practice for Traitor
Catching.
|
A Face to the Name: |
|
Task 3 got all of the
players to post their photos for use on the website. 4 players
failed to do so.
|
Poll: |
|
The majority believed
that no players would be removed from the game due to the first
challenge (33%) and they were correct. 27% thought that more
than four would leave, and only 7% thought that two would leave.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Allison, Acura,
Jasmine and
Kristina all fail to complete the simple Picture task.
Andy, Joey and
Tara all post Lloyd as the fake player in
the showdown.
Dottie turns down $2 and subtracts $1 from
the pot for an exemption.
Emma was the last
person to arrive during Task 1, she was in time to still win money,
but she did not post until after the deadline.
Lloyd edited his Yahoo! profile with false
information and links that made him seem like the fake player.
Tara turned down a valuable offer that could have uncovered the identity
of the fake player.
|
Execution: |
|
Due to Tara's bad
judgment the group faced a double execution on their first one ever.
At the execution Peter was revealed as fake, and and was removed from
the game. The exaction revealed that Acura and Brian had
received the lowest scores on the quiz, and both were removed from the
game.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Adam: "I still think it's Peter. It's just too obvious... and that concerns me. Either Peter is the fake, Peter is the Traitor, or Peter is a big idiot."
|

|
Segment Two
|
|
|
Second Chance: |
|
Dismayed that he had
been executed, Brian spoke to the host afterwards. The host
revealed that he had been executed since no quiz had been received
from him. Surprised at this news, Brian said he had sent one.
Later the Mailer Daemon returned Brian's quiz due to an error.
By forwarding the error to the Host Brian proved he had sent a quiz on
time, and he was re-instated into the game.
|
Low Moral: |
|
Due to their major
losing streak the players were feeling down about the game, and
promised themselves that they would do better in the following
segment.
|
Activity: |
|
The tasks in the
coming Segment all involve activity and speed. Task 4 required
each to post their information in a database, this was not completed.
|
Hairy HTML: |
|
Task 5 gave each of
the players a profile to fill out, which the catch that it had to be
submitted in the original, working HTML script. If successfully
completed the group would win their first Single Execution, however,
based on their current track record, they would not succeed.
Much to everyone's surprise, all of the profiles were submitted
perfectly, a dollar was added to the pot, and the Double Execution was
cancelled.
|
Apply Yourself: |
|
A list of quotes
taken from the applications were posted on the message board.
The players were challenged with their first personal task.
Whoever could guess who said which quote, and achieve the highest
score would win an opportunity to read a player's application
(possibly the Traitor's.) Kristina had the highest score (5 out
of 16 quotes.) Instead of reading an application, she chose to
add a dollar to the pot. |
Poll: |
|
When asked whether
the players would win any money at all this week, the majority of the
voters said that they would. And they were right.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Brian re-instated, simple accident or complex cover-up?
Jasmine failed to enter her information for Task four, failing the
task.
Joey found the Alien and took $1 from the
pot for an exemption.
|
Execution: |
|
The quiz was close,
there was a tie for the lowest score. In the end Royann became
the first active player to be removed from the game.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Lloyd: "Really... is Joey a lady's man?"
Dottie: "They just find him very good looking and sweet."
|

|
Segment Three
|
|
|
Referenced: |
|
Another personal
reward task was issued to kick off segment three. Two of the
players would walk away from this task with exemptions. All the
players had to do was get another player to reference them for an
exemption, but doing so meant that both players were taken out of the
task, and the referencer could no longer receive an exemption in this
task. Lloyd and Andy decided to give exemptions to Joey and Tara
exemptions. Joey is exempt for the second segment in a row.
|
Puzzled: |
|
Two more tasks were
handed out the following day, both involving puzzles. For the
players this was a welcome change from the Activity tasks.
|
Prolific Profiles: |
|
For the second
segment in a row the player's profiles became a hot topic. Task
9 offered the players a chance at revealing some of the profiles, and
maybe win some money for the pot in the process. Each player was
sent two Picture Puzzles. If the player could correctly answer
one puzzle, they won the ability to unlock another player's profile on
the webpage. If they could answer both correctly, they would
receive the choice of blocking their own profile from being opened or
adding a dime to the pot.
|
Shattered: |
|
The players each
received a black and green picture file that appeared to be nothing
more than some wavy lines. But when the players began to put
their pieces together, they found it was more than a design, it was a
web address, broken into thirteen chunks.
|
Repetitive: |
|
When the players were
finally able to solve the mystery web address they were lead to a site
with no less than 1000 links. On one of these links was the conclusion to
the task, but they had to find it first. They had to
painstakingly search through every single link until they found the
correct page.
|
Poll: |
|
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Andy, Dottie,
Dan, Lloyd,
Emma and
Kristina all chose to block
their profiles. Do they have something to hide?
Tara uncovered the mystery address early,
but refused to share it with the team.
|
Execution: |
|
In a shocking third
segment ceremony, it is Dottie who takes the walk out of the game.
The execution had a profound effect on the remaining players, who were
left in complete shock over Dottie's departure. Lloyd: "I've lost a friend
in the game. :-("
|
Player Speak: |
|
Joey: "Don't
get your head too high... you
might hurt yourself on the ceiling"
|

|
Segment Four
|
|
|
Traitor Farms: |
|
The players are given
a "chicken" to care for. To care for the chicken they must feed
it by emailing it's food. The chicken, nicknamed Mini-Ron, did
not survive long under the watch of the players, for it was dead by
both over-feeding and under-feeding within 2 hours upon arrival.
|
Reality Overload: |
|
For the second task
of the segment, the players were asked to compile a list of everyone
who ever participated in the American versions of Survivor, The Mole,
and Big Brother. A task simple enough, but the players had some
major problems with it. Everything started fine with
contributations all around, and they hit only a few roadblocks.
The group even managed to figure out who the possible replacement
player was in Big Brother. Then Henry from The Mole gave then
some problems, his last name could not be located no matter how hard
they tried. Even e-mailing host Anderson Cooper and former mole
Kathryn Price did not turn up any answers. The players became
unsure of what to do, and did not get any list submitted by the
deadline, losing the task.
|
Hellish Twist: |
|
A new regular
appeared in the game during this segment. Like The Alien, this
guest gave it's locator a special choice, but this choice would affect
the outcome of the rest of the game. That guest is The Demon.
Located by Dan shortly after it's arrival, it posed two choices.
One was to add a dollar to the pot, and give a bonus point away, but
the price was a Double Execution. The second choice was the
opposite, a single execution, but a dollar subtracted from the pot,
and a demerit point. Going only by intuition Dan chose to add a
dollar to the pot.
|
Gone Fishin' |
|
In an impromptu chat,
four players participated in a game of speed and wits. The basis
was to enter the player you did not want to win the prize the
quickest. The first person's name to appear was removed from the
game. Kristina and Adam were removed, leaving Tara and Allison
in the final two. The tables were turned and Kris and Adam got
to decide who won. Kris decided to give the prize to Tara.
Part of the prize: an exemption. But it was not hers, she had to
give it to another player, she chosen Allison.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Adam killed Mini-Ron in two different ways.
Tara posted that she sent in the Reality
List, but it never arrived.
Dan slated the group for double execution.
|
Execution: |
|
Brian's schedule was
not allowing him to play successfully in the game, so he humbly
stepped down, making the execution seem only single. Jasmine
received the lowest quiz score, and also received a one way ticket
home.
|
Player Speak: |
|
The Traitor: "The
real test will come
when the finger pointing, the lies, the manipulation, all become just
a bit too much."
|

|
Segment Five
|
|
|
We Remember: |
|
The game took a break
on September 11th to reflect on the thousands of lives lost in New
York City, Washington DC, and Pennsylvania. We, and everyone
else in the world, remember.
|
Mixed Nuts: |
|
A task this week was
two-fold, an opportunity to win money for the pot, and also to earn a
valuable clue to the identity of the Traitor. Each player was
sent a single letter. Everyone posted their letter, but no
matter how hard the group tried they could not unscramble the letters.
Did someone switch their letter?
|
Shot Down: |
|
In an unforeseen
side-effect of the Trout Slapping game for Segment Four, one of the
players was given a special task. This player had to eliminate
all of the other players from the task simply by saying "BANG" to them
in an instant message or replied e-mail. The other players were
not given specifics on this task, they were only notified that it had
begun. It was up to the other players to figure out what was
going on. If the chosen player could eliminate everyone else
within 48 hours they would receive an exemption. If not, for
every player left standing, 50 cents would be added to the pot.
Tara successfully eliminated all of the players, ensuring her safe
passage to the next segment.
|
Fourth Sighting: |
|
The sought-after
Alien turned up again this week, but went unnoticed for four days.
The players were given an extra clue to it's whereabouts.
Allison and Stephen searched long and hard for it, but Mike came out
on top, and chose to forfeit the cash for the exemption.
|
Tutor Teaches: |
|
The players learned a
valuable lesson this segment: Never underestimate the power of an
observer. In a surprise double execution Tutor was given the
power to remove a player of his choice from the game. Tutor's
decision was announced at the segment's execution.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Everyone is suspect when the letters from the Scramble Task
make no sense.
Tara loses the group money when she attempts
exemption.
Mike takes an exemption when he finds the
Alien, costing the group $1.
|
Execution: |
|
The execution beings
with an unexpected and unwelcome twist: it was an unavoidable double
execution. Why? Tutor was given the ability to remove any player
of his choice from the game, based on any criteria he liked.
Going by activity in the game Tutor chose to remove Emma. Based
on the regular quiz scores Andy was taken out of the game as well.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Stephen: " I
have tried to figure out those stupid clues, and even the stupid Task
13. Those were a waste of my time. The game is getting frustrating." |

|
Segment Six
|
|
|
Splitting Up: |
|
The players were
asked to split themselves into four groups: 2 people good at math, 2
intelligent people, 4 risk-takers, and one person fearless of being
executed. Tara and Allison elected themselves good at math, Dan
and Mike said they were intelligent, Kris, Adam, Stephen and Joey all
became the risk-takers, and Lloyd was the one fearless of being
executed.
|
One Big Task: |
|
After the execution
the reason for being split up was revealed to the players: Lloyd
had been captured and locked in a hidden complex, and to retrieve him
the player would have to complete a large task, spanning the entire
segment,
|
'Rithmatic: |
|
As the math-gurus
Allison and Tara became the "Scouts". It was their job to locate
the complex by solving advanced functions mathematical questions and
posting them on the board. By doing so correctly they unlocked
the complex and gained a dollar to the pot.
|
Braaaains: |
|
Immediately after the
complex was unlocked Mike and Dan began their work. The
Intelligence team was sent a list of clues on how to make safe passage
through the sniper riddled complex.
|
We're Going In: |
|
Adam, Joey, Stephen
and Kristina became the Infiltrators. They had to do the dirty
work. They had to enter the complex one by one on the paths
designated by the Intelligence team, and try to locate Lloyd. If
they entered a room with a sniper in it they would be eliminated and
receive a demerit point on the quiz. All of them were eliminated
before they found Lloyd, therefore they were all docked a point on
their quizzes. But Lloyd still had a chance at survival.
|
We're Going In: |
|
The players were
given one more chance at rescuing Lloyd. The Scouts and
Intelligence teams were enlisted as Infiltrators, but at twice the
risk and half the profit. The new Infiltrators (Allison, Dan,
Mike and Tara) were given the choice not to try, since they would be
docked two points each if they failed. Tara tried, but failed,
losing points on her quiz. Mike went in immediately after and
successfully located Lloyd.
|
Down to the Wire: |
|
If any of the
Infiltrators made it to Lloyd them would find him strapped to a device
with two buttons. A Green button, and a Blue button. They
had to decide which button to press to safely release Lloyd and win
the task. But if they pressed the wrong one, both Lloyd and the
Infiltrator would be eliminated, gaining demerit point on their
quizzes. Mike pressed the correct button.
|
Poll: |
|
In the Favourite
Player Poll Tara stole the vast majority of the votes with 62% |
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Dan and Mike fail the
Infiltrators, causing them all demerit points.
Kristina decides on a double execution.
|
Execution: |
|
The game thickens, as
the cast gets thinner... In a super-shocking execution both Tara
and Stephen were removed. Both players were expected to do well
by their teammates. After an a heart-felt good-bye to the
fallen, the remaining players had no choice but to continue the game.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Adam: "It's
something that I have no viable reason to do in reality - it's great
to be able to really manipulate people here. Lying is fun."
|

|
Segment Seven
|
|
|
The Fallen: |
|
The executed players
return and wreak havoc as they gave away bonus point, demerit points
and even an exemption to the remaining players who they thought were
worthy.
|
Bad Players: |
|
The worst of the
players was brought out during the Sins task. Every player had
been assigned one of the Seven Deadly Sins by Tutor, based on whatever
he deemed suitable. The players had to judge what their sins
were and the more the guessed correctly the more they would win for
the pot.
|
Hand of God: |
|
To go along with the
Sins theme, the players were also assigned one of the Seven Heavenly
Virtues. Each virtue the opposite of a sin, the players had the
choice to condemn someone to a demerit point, or absolve themselves
and block themselves from being condemned.
|
Love Thy Neighbor: |
|
In a hidden twist to
the Virtues game, if the players all chose not to condemn their fellow
players, they would have displayed true virtue. All of the
players did so and a dollar was added to the pot.
|
ET Strikes Again: |
|
Not a single player
has chosen the fill the pot when they find the Alien, always greedily
taking the exemption and subtracting the money.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Lloyd takes the exemption over the $2 when he found the Alien.
Lloyd pretends to kill people off as Tara
did in Task 13: Hunt or Be Hunted.
Dan submits the sins list, but only two were
correct out of seven.
|
Execution: |
|
After a lengthy
execution, a favourite suspect as the Traitor and a strong player, was
removed from the game. Thanks for playing Kristina.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Dan: "It's
crunch time, and some very important decisions have to be made."
|

|
Segment Eight
|
|
|
Lions and Tigers... |
|
Lions and tigers had
nothing to do with this week's tasks, but a multitude of other animals
did. The Players were divided into two groups of three, each
group given a separate task involving animals.
|
Farmer Brown: |
|
Dan, Lloyd and Mike
made up the Farm team, they had to design a website with information
and pictures of five farm animals, including links, a counter and a
guestbook. They were successful.
|
P-etcetera: |
|
The other team,
consisting of Adam, Allison, and Joey had to raise a neopet at
Neopets.com, and gain 50 000NP (neopet dollars) in three days.
They were off to a good start when the money disappeared.
Another attempt failed when all of the money disappeared again, right
before the deadline.
|
Suicide: |
|
The players were
challenged to a game of Russian Roulette. If they chose to
accept the task the pot would grow, but one of the players would
receive 3 demerit points. Dan refused to "pull the trigger" and
the task was failed.
|
Evil 610: |
|
The message 610 held
a big secret, which Allison stumbled across when she posted in it.
She was given the Alien choice (she took the exemption.) That
choice triggered the demon, and it resulted in a double execution.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Lloyd does not participate in the Farm task, citing a stressful
life.
Dan refuses to participate in Russian
Roulette
Adam said he filled the Neopets account, but
it was empty.
Someone emptied the Neopets account twice.
|
Execution: |
|
Both Adam and Lloyd
were executed.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Allison:
"This must be what it feels like standing on the chair with the noose
around you neck...knowing that death is coming"
|

|
Segment Nine
|
|
|
Brain Power: |
|
The contestants had
to take an IQ test. Results:
Dan: 136
Mike: 135
Allison: 127
Joey: 115
|
Whisper: |
|
The players got into
another argument over the voices task. Joey's credibility was
the focus, when Dan accused him of lying that the tasks were fake.
Dan was proven wrong however when the task he thought was real began
subtracting money from the pot.
|
Suspicious Activity: |
|
Dan loses money for the team in the Voices Task.
|
Execution: |
|
Four bonus points
couldn't help Allison stay in the game.
|
Player Speak: |
|
Allison:
"This must be what it feels like standing on the chair with the noose
around you neck...knowing that death is coming"
