Chris Douridas - 'Look Who's Perfect
Now.' It's Transister live in the studio. First song that I heard
from this band actually just a couple weeks ago. I'm Chris Douridas
and We are joined in the studio by Keely Hawkes on vocals, Eric
Pressly on guitar; acoustic guitar there, Gary Clark on guitar as
well. And we are joined today by special guest drummer Matt Laug
who people will know for his work on Jagged Little
Pill, the Alanis Morisette album.
It's great to have you guys here.
- Thanks for having us.
Chris - This is really, the song you started I mean you guys, this
is, if we go back like about eight weeks..
Eric Pressly - Eight whole weeks.
Chris - Eight whole weeks, this is when all it began. I mean, I
guess I got the tape like two-three weeks ago and you got the tape
to me I think the day after you get back to LA right?
Eric - Yes.
Chris - Ok, so before you came back to LA you had just finished
this tape.
Eric - Almost just finished it. I left Gary with two mixes. There
was yeah, there was [....] recorded and most of the mixes were finished.
Chris - And how much later did the rest of the mixes come to you?
Eric - Just a week.
Chris - A week?!
Eric - Yeah! We had a day left off and we finished the other two
mixes.
[....]
Eric - [laughs]
Chris - I see, so you brought me 3 songs. While he was mixing a
couple more.
Eric - That's right.
Chris - And then, thats when I heard them and I flip down [....]
I called you and said 'Can I get this on a DAT?' And by then you
got me other mixes. And you brought me in DAT.
Eric - I brought you. That's right, six songs. That's you [....]
stuck me in that little room.
Chris - Yeah little room.
Eric - [laughs]
Chris - And then I started trying them on the air. People went
nuts and here we are..
Eric - Here we are.
Keely - Here we are.
Chris - I know that you've got several record labels interested
in you at this point. What followed was a lot of phone calls from
people listened this "How can I get this?" I have to say
again, as always there is nothing to buy at this point. Its simply
demos. And you guys are...
Eric - They are demos but I mean its not as if, you know we spent
some time on them.
Chris - Yeah.
Keely - Much more time actually.
[....]
- You can consider them masters, [....] to be finished.
Eric - [laughs]
Chris - I see, I see but really they are only like. At that point
there are only six songs and now you have written the seventh since
then we gonna be hearing this morning.
Eric - A little later yeah.
Chris - Yeah ok. What we are hearing now is of course live performances
of songs from Transister. How did you guys come together? I mean
lets go back nine weeks ok?
[laughs]
Chris - Before you got together..
Keely - We [laughs] [....] more than nine weeks , so we actually
get together cause I have known Eric for four years now. Four-five
years and these guys were working before that on an [....] project.
[....]
Gary - Keely get us a solo record from EMI Germany. And Eric produced
some tracks, wrote some songs.
Keely - That's right yeah.
Chris - So that's how you met Eric, Keely.
Keely - Yeah. In LA. [....]
Chris - In LA Working for tracks for that album.
Keely - That's right.
