Q) Keely, I hear you are now living in LA with Eric. We know you were close friends with him even before Transister. What’s the relation between you now?

A) Actually We recently got engaged. We're thinking of getting married in 2002.

Q) Oh that’s wonderful. Congratulations, that will be a nice surprise for the fans. Does that mean you will live in LA?

A) To my Mothers dismay!! Yep.

Q) Do you often visit your hometown?

A) I'll be back in England in May for a friend's wedding. I'll also be there for Christmas so yes I do go back quite often.

Q) How does it feel to be in an “another town,” country?

A) I miss home mainly for the friends and family I left behind but I love it here in la la land. The weather is a real bonus!

Q) You are from a very musical family, can you tell us a little about this?

A) My father 'Len Hawkes' was the singer of a sixties band called 'The Tremeloes.' His biggest single was called 'Silence is Golden.' It was NO 1 all over the world. My brother Chesney also had a huge single in 1992. He was 19 years old. The song was called 'The one and only.' I guess it's in the blood?

Q) And you recorded an album called “Just a Page” Can you tell me about this?

A) 'Just a Page' was a solo album I recorded when I was 17 years old. I was signed to E.M.I. records. I was young and hadn't really figured out what I was doing musically. It's a bit like looking at old photographs when you were young and geeky!

Q) Let’s talk about the first “-transister” album. What critics did you receive? How do you feel about the album now looking back now?

A) In general I think the album was well received by the media. When I listen to the album now I'm proud of the work we did. I can hear things that could maybe be better but I'm sure that everyone who finishes anything creative could go back and change things!

Q) Many people compared you with Garbage, what do you think about that band?

A) All three of us like the band Garbage. They were one of our influences.

Q) Where was the first album written and recorded?

A) The first album was recorded in London and Los Angeles. Most of the writing took place at Gary's house in the south of France. It's always nice to go somewhere inspirational.

Q) Then you had a 3 month tour across Europe in 1998, how was that?

A) It was great experience especially the festival gigs. Everyone is always in a state on Euphoria at festivals. It's contagious and always makes for a mad/fun night!

Q) I heard that Billy Corgan from The Smashing Pumpkins invited you to support them...did you accept?

A) Basically we got the Smashing Pumpkins gig because Transister and The Smashing Pumpkins were rehearsing in the same London studio. The drummer came in while we were practicing and I guess liked what he heard! We gave him an album and he played it for Billy. A week later we were on stage with them at the 'Shepherd's Bush Empire' in London.

Q) Who have you supported up until now?

A) We supported 'Headswim', 'Dandy Warhols', 'Bjork', 'Matchbox 20', 'Smashing Pumpkins' and others.

Q) Let me return to Transister's album. Is there a particular song from your first album special to you in anyway, or any lyrics?

A) More than any one specific song, I like that the overall lyrics of the album are from a strong stand point. Independent women kind a thing. The song 'Flow' is one of my fav's.

Q) So, how are you with fashion, feminism etc.?

A) I'm not really a girlie girl. I'm not into shopping/make-up or manicures! But I do love my girlie friends and I couldn't live without a good girlie chat every now and then!

Q) Regarding the songs , how the idea of the song “Head” come about? Phone booth etc.

A) This was inspired by my girlfriend Maddy. She was going through a bad Break up at the time. We were out having catching up one evening when I witnessed her x-boyfriend call her no less than 10 times. I basically copied the messages he left on her cell phone!!

Q) It was really interesting hearing that in the song 'Head.' In the song 'Falling of the world,' I read that you sampled your mother screaming? How did that come about?

A) My mother was in a horror film called 'The Haunted House Of Horror' when she was all of 19 years old when she filmed it. In one scene she gives an almighty scream and faints to the floor. (She had just found her screen boyfriend dead in the haunted house!!!!) We had a laugh sampling her dramatic scream and putting all over 'Falling off the world.'

Q) Is there a special story about 'Dizzy Moon'?

A) 'Dizzy Moon' started off as 'Disney Moon' We wrote this while we were at Gary's house in France. A few red wine bottles later and the moon turned "Dizzy"!!

Q) You were at the MBE show in Kcrw before the album released, and you sing there a different song from the ones in the album and singles, what was that beautiful song?

A) The song 'Water' from the KCRW show was never recorded. This was the only time we used the song. I'm glad you liked it! I'd forgotten all about it!

Q) There are two versions of “Look Who's Perfect Now” video, which one is first ? What do you think about your videos?
