III World Recollection of The Polish Highlanders in Rome

In the Polish Home of John Paul II at Via Cassia 1200, III World Recollection of The Polish Highlanders took place from February 28 to March 3, 2000. The first of these was organized in 1998 at Castel S.Elia and second in 1999 at Roco di Papa. The guiding motto of the 2000 year was, "Open your hearts to Jesus". Ninety persons from Poland, Austria, England and France participated. Participants in the recollection were heads of municipalities, chaplains and members of Polish Highlanders Alliance from Poland and other countries. From Poland, thay came from Zakopane, Nowy Targ, Rabka, Zywiec, Lublin and Krakow. In 2000, there were members of Highlanders from Koscielisko, who were celebrating seventy five years of their existence. The Highlanders listened with great attention to the lecture of Professor Stanislaw Grygiel of the Lateran University in Rome. His lecture was on justice and forgiveness. There was discussion of matters concerning with the Highlanders culture! and present problems of the Tatra region. It was a great experience for all present to meet the Holy Father, first in a private audiance and second in the general one. One day's program consisted of visiting the Patriarchal Basilicas, crossing trough the Holy Door, climbing the Holy Stairs and the Colosseum. The Pope's private secretary, Bishop Stansilaw Dziwisz, as well as Bishop Stanislaw Rylko, secretary of Papal Board of Laity, were also present. Bishop Stanislaw Dziwisz reminded the Highlanders of what the Holy Father said of them in 1997,

"I can always count on you". He also appealed for unity among Highlanders. Those gathered answered by singing song composed by Senator Franciszek Bachleda-Ksiedzularz, " Sursum corda brothers". By which thay assured him that thay will" always defend the cross on the heart of Giewont". Strenghten in Spirit, the Highlanders left for their homes with the strong conviction to be" apostles in their own domain." The organizer who conceived the idea of recollections is Father Wladyslaw Zarebczan, former editor in the Polish section of Radio Vatican, actually working in The Vatican.
