Anjuna BeachGoa is famous for its one of the most exotic beaches throughout the world. Located around 18 km from Panaji, Anjuna Beach, is situated in Bardez taluka. This beach is really a haven for every person who loves nature and its sources. This beach was discovered by the hippies in the late 1950. Located 8 km west of Mapusa, It's the part of a 30 km stretch of beach coastline along western coast of Goa by the Arabian Sea. The premier attraction is Anjuna beach include Flea Market and Chapora Fort. Bathing at Anjuna Beach is generally safer than its nearby located resorts. A rocky headland keeps the sea calm especially at the more peaceful southern end. Village of Anjuna is a five square mile enclosure nestled between Arabian Sea and the Hill overlooking the beach. Swaying palms, soft sands and natural beauty are the hallmark of this beach. An unusual rocky formation overlying a cove of white sand and black rock juts into Arabian Sea. Often called as "Ozran", the area was known as the Jewel of Anjuna. A famous early haunt of the hippies discovered it in the sixties. Chapora fort and "Albuquerque mansion" are located nearby. Main Excursions Around Anjuna Beach There are lots of beautiful places in and around Anjuna Beach. Besides Chapora Fort and Albuquerque Mansion, a mountain is there in the east. If you are tired of the party and interested in returning to civilization, you can climb the mountain. Get to Baga there onwards where one can catch a ferry out. Panajim is also very close to this beach. Chapora Fort gives us a scenic view of nearby Anjuna and Vagator beaches. It has remained somehow intact except a few interesting ruins. It was a domain of the Muslim rulers before the Portuguese wrested it. Marathas hijacked three priests from the Chapora Fort and made them Hindus in 1683. Tourist Activities at Anjuna Beach Anjuna Beach in Goa is not only famous for its beauty but this is also a paradise for adventure lovers. This beach offers several full-moon beach parties along with several water-sports. Bathing is generally safer at Anjuna than at most of the nearby resorts. The most delightful activities at the Anjuna Beach is bathing and swimming. One can also enjoy sun bathing at the beach. Tourists can try out snorkeling around the rocks in the sea. If you want to go for boating then it is also available here. During boating you can also enjoy watching dolphins in the sea. Best Time to Visit The best time to visit this beautiful beach is from November to March. Exotic beaches of Anjuna are the main source of fascination among tourists from rest of India and beyond. During Christmas and New Year rush, the area is so much packed with a large crowd from throughout the country who basically come in for big beach parties. Where to Eat There are a number of places at Anjuna beach and Anjuna Village which have good places to eat and drink. These eating joints are simple semi open aired and palm leafed huts, specializing in fish and western food. These restaurants serve cold beer, invariably with great techno-trance music in the background. You will also be approached every five minutes by women selling fruits here on the beach. Beach Resorts/Hotels at Anjuna Beach A limited accommodation at Anjuna comprises of small houses. Some resorts and guest houses are there at main Starco's crossroads. Nearby located accommodation options include Calangute, Baga or nearby Vagator or Chapora. Rail : The Karmali railway station is 29 kms from Anjuna. Road : If you are coming from Mapusa and Panjim, you may drop at various points along Tarmac Road across the top of the village at Main Starco's crossroads. A couple of stores, one motorcycle taxi stand and a bus stand are there. There are buses that reach Anjuna from Mapusa. |
