Kanyakumari BeachOften referred as the 'Land's End' of India, Kanyakumari is the southern most tip of Indian mainland. This place is the confluences between Bay of Bengal with Indian Ocean and the Arabian Sea. There are some unique and beautiful tourist attractions on the Beach of Kanyakumari. Chaitrapurnima is a popular day also known as full moon day, generally falling in April. You can enjoy the unique experience of seeing the sunset on that particular day and the moon rise over the ocean simultaneously here. The name Kanyakumari is dedicated to the Hindu deity Kanya. This place is also an important pilgrim center. There is a beautiful and tall lighthouse which offers some of the most delightful views of the surroundings. The seas are rough and waves splash furiously against the rocks here. Vivekananda's Rock, a huge stone rising out of the sea, believed to be the seat of meditation of the great saint, Swami Vivekananda. Attractions around Kanyakumari Beach Kanyakumari Beach is well known and famous for the magnificent sunrises and mesmerizing sunsets especially on full moon days. This beach is also known for its vast stretches of paddy fields, rich forests, coconut groves and mineral sands. Seashore here is rocky and dangerous and a man-made wall runs along it. There are two major tourist attractions around Kanyakumari Beach. Vivekananda's Rock : Vivekananda's rock, a huge stone rising out of the sea, is the famous attraction here. This rock is the place where famous Indian saint and philosopher, Swami Vivekananda meditated here. It now houses the statue of Vivekananda and is a memorial to him. This memorial was built in the year 1970. Visiting time is from 8 am to 4 pm. There is a lighthouse from where you can relish a panoramic view of the surrounding. This place attracts thousands of visitors every year from all around the world. This is really must watch place of the beach. The Sangam : This is the most important place of the region. Sangam is the meeting point of the three major bodies of water, the Bay of Bengal, the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean. People bathe and jump around here. Here waves wash over the rocks which make a beautiful sight to watch. Best Time To Visit Kanyakumari experiences a pleasant climate as it's very close to the sea. This place is suitable and visited throughout the year but October and March is the most enjoyable season to visit the place. The temperature can elevate up to a high of 34.8 ºC during summers, while it can dip to a low of 20.4 ºC during winters. Where To Eat There are lots of small beach restaurants scattered around the beach where one can find every type of Classic South-Indian type without Rotis (pan cake made from wheat). This is the main meals available at Kanyakumari. North-Indian delicacies are available in some Rajastani/Punjabi style restaurants. Where to Stay Kanyakumari beach has several hotels near and around beach which are available from budget to luxury class. As it may be difficult to find a room on a short notice, advance booking is advised. November to January and April to May is the high season. Rooms are also rented out for 24 hours. You can take a taxi or bus to Kanyakumari there onwards. Kanyakumari is also connected by train services with other cities in India. Regular bus services are available from Pondicherry, Bangalore, Chennai, Trichy, Tuticorin, Tiruchendur, Madurai, Mandapam (Rameshwaram), Nagercoil, Tiruvelveli and Trivandrum etc. |
