Punjab

Punjab, the land of agriculture is one of the richest states of India. Punjab is the state which preserves the world's first and oldest civilizations, the Indus Valley Civilization. Punjab, the name of the state is a combination of the Persian words "panj" and "ab" which means the Land of five rivers. These famous rivers of Punjab are Beas, Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi and Sutlej. Punjab is a state which has had tremendous impact on the growth and development of the country. Punjab is the only land in the world which has about 60% of population is Sikh community. The most famous festival of Punjab is Vaisakhi. The best infrastructure of Punjab has attracted to foreign companies who are looking for bases and manufacturing zones for their Indian operations. Bhangra, the traditional Punjabi dance is a fine example of the vibrant culture of the state.

Major Tourist Attractions in Punjab

Rock Garden - Rock Garden is a beautiful park which is built over a huge area. The main attraction of this park is that this park consists of numerous objects, figures and other interesting things, all made of waste products. This park was built by Nek Chand who was a former transport official.

Sukhna Lake - This is a beautiful and artificial lake of Punjab. Sukhna Lake is a popular hangout spot for both tourists and residents. One can enjoy here walking on path, boats, cafe and a small amusement park. This lake is also Asia's longest water channel for rowing and yachting.


Pinjore Gardens - Pinjore Gardens is also known as Yadavindra Gardens located 20 km from Chandigarh. Pinjore Gardens is one of the most popular picnic spots in the state. This is a beautiful Mughal garden which offers facilities such as a mini zoo, a cafeteria and picnic lawns for its visitors.

Golden Temple - Golden Temple is the most renowned Sikh Pilgrimage center in the city of Amritsar in Punjab. Golden Temple is a beautiful complex. This temple is visited by thousands of devotees and tourists from around the world. The architecture of this temple is a mixture of Hindu and Islamic style.

Jallianwala Bagh - Jallianwala Bagh is the place which has an important impact in Indian freedom struggle. This park is situated just a short walk from the Golden Temple. This is the place where in 1919, British soldiers open fired on a peaceful gathering of men, women and children and killed over one thousand people.

Wagah Border - Wagah Border is the place which divides India and Pakistan from each other. This is the only bus route from Punjab to enter in Pakistan. In the evening, the border closing ceremony takes place and witnessed by hundreds of tourists. The change of guard among the Indian Border Security Forces is an enchanting spectacle.

Gurudwara Shrimanji Sahib Alamgir - This is place where during the battle, Sikh Guru Gobind Singh was taken away for safety by Nabi and Ghani Khan. This place is situated just 10 km from Ludhiana. Here Guru Gobind Singh shot an arrow and water appeared miraculously which can still be seen here.
