Rameshwaram Beach

Rameshwaram is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage site situated in the state of Tamil Nadu with a calm and scenic beach. Ramanathaswamy Temple - Rameshwaram Beach is well known for its world famous Ramanathaswamy Temple. This beautiful and ancient temple is near the beach on the eastern side. This temple is spread over 151 acres. This temple was built in the 17th century and is a magnificent example of Dravidian art. Temple is famous for its 1200 gigantic granite columns, 54 meter tall gate-tower (Gopuram) and 1220 meters of magnificent corridors which attracts every tourist.


Agnitheertham - This is an important place for Hindu which is just 100 meters away from Ramanathaswamy temple. It is believed that this is the place where Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva, and asked forgiveness for killing Ravana.

The maximum temperature of this island varies 28 to 31 degree Celsius. The best time to visit this island is considered between January and March.

The closest Airport to Rameshwaram is at Madurai at the distance of 155 km. Several flights are from Madurai to fly to Mumbai. Chennai is about 1 hour from Madurai. Rameshwaram is well connected by rail with all the major cities of India like Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Trichy, and Thanjavur. Frequent bus services are also available from Rameshwaram to some of the major cities including Madurai, Tiruchapalli, Chennai and Kanyakumari. One can also hire local transportation like taxis, auto-rickshaws, cycle-rickshaws and Tongas.
