Prayers for August

Pray for the peace process in Northern Ireland and that God will break into that land in a new way, into the upcoming generation. That they will cease to repeat the mistakes of the past, but instead look to God for His solutions to the centuries old argmument between Catholic and Protestant, many of whom do not possess a living and vibrant experience of God and His Love. Pray that He will bring many to their knees in realisation that man's wisdom and force are not sufficient to solve policital problems. Pray that they shall realise that it is a change of heart that is needed, and that this begins with themselves.

Pray also for the survivors of both the Bradford racist riots and the bombing in Ealing, London, by the Real IRA. Again, the above comments apply. Only the moving of God's Spirit and the dispensation of His Wisdom will make a vital difference in helping communities live with each other in peace.

On that score, we continue to remember Israel, being very conscious of the latest rounds of "tit-for-tat". We long to see an outpouring of God's Spirit particularly in the land of Israel, in such a way that nobody could deny the reality of His Presence and Glory. Pray especially for those who have gone out to Israel in recent years to live amongst the people, to pray for the healing of that country. We thank God for such people. Continue to pray for Ariel Sharon who has probably one of the most difficult tasks of all - running a nation! May he know God's wonderful help.

Pray for President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair as they seek to take our respective nations forward. May they be God led. Pray for more Christians in Government to be an influence for good and for God in their vocations.

Remember those who are in the caring vocations, assisting those unable to help themselves, to enjoy the simple of things of life, the kind of things you and I take for granted. In particular, I think of a friend at my church, Ros Brown, who heads of Redwoods Caring Foundation, also a woman of the Spirit, being very prophetic. She has a gallant army of volunteers and paid staff who work around the clock to care for physically and mentally disabled people in several houses within Edinburgh and one in Newtongrange (just south of Edinburgh on the outskirts).
