Fielding Davis
Fielding Davis was the son of Thomas Davis and the
nephew of Charles E Davis (deceased). Fielding Davis was serving as Justice
of the Peace of Woodford County by this document.
Library of Virginia document on land warrant request for heirs of Charles Davis, of Jessamine Co, KY. Charles Davis died 1 Feb 1807 in Jessamine Co, KY. He had moved his family to Jessamine Co, KY about 1796 or 1797 from Culpeper Co, VA. Charles was born in Spotsylvania Co, VA. His full name was Charles Edwin Davis, the son of James Conway Davis of Spotsylvania Co, VA. **There is a element of error in this record as is "common or prevalent" in many records of events during the American Revolution as when recounted by the Veterans their memory was clouded by age or the story had been passed to and thru more than one relative or descendant and with each recount some of the original got lost or changed in the "telling". I took a grain of faith in accepting that this is a true account of the memory of Mr. Fielding Davis from what he was told or remembered of it. George Town is in South Carolina not North Carolina and there is a Sandee river in South Carolina and am not sure if Fielding meant the Pee Dee River which is about 25 miles North of George Town, South Carolina. It would seem likely that it was the Pee Dee River not the Sandee, the Sandee being South of George Town. The source of the mistake in the account given could have been Charles in telling the original story. He may have been confused as to exactly where they were in Carolina. I assume South and North Carolina were two distinct colonies and New States in 1780s during the American Revolution.
