BIG TIME CREW: Brad Miller, Steve Brooks, Steve Miller, Skippy Snodgrass, Cory (dirty) Mahoney, Chad Mahoney. ABOUT THE CAR: The car is a replica of a 1923 Ford body mounted on a round tube chassis that weighs 1800 lbs. It’s powered by an all aluminum 500 cubic inch Chevrolet engine, blown and injected, running on methanol. It has a 3 speed air shifted transmission and special scooped tires to help control the 1800 horsepower. The car is painted show quality candy apple red with pearl flames and always shines. The Big Time top alcohol funny car will run consistently under 3 seconds and at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour! Big Time was first built by Jim Green. Green named the car The Green Elephant and raced it as a nitro funny car on the NHRA (National Hot Rod Association) tour. The car was then bought by Lynn Rediman who converted it to a top alcohol funny car. Rediman raced it in the NHRA Division 6 races, which are primarily on the west coast. The car was then sold to Jim Griner and was altered in a top alcohol sand funny car. Mahoney purchased the car from Griner in 1988. The Big Time top alcohol funny car’s wheels up runs and parachute stops make it a crowd favorite everywhere it races. ABOUT SAND DRAG RACING: Sand Drag racing originated in the dried up river beds of Southern California in the early 1970's. At first Sand Drag racing was a recreational sport, with no time clocks or guards rails. Eventually, the sport revolutionized into many clubs and organizations across North America. Drag racing in the sand is very exciting. Racing takes place on a straight track that is 100-yards long, and built in sand. Other than the surface and the length it is identical to drag racing on the asphalt but you really get to see the sand fly.
