We have invited some speakers to give talks on some topics relating to our
course.
Mr. Thalji's talk was about some new uses of computers in recent years in
carrying out designs that hitherto have been thought undoable.
Mini Resume of Mr. Thalji:
Education:
- 1996–2001: Bachelor of Architecture, University of
Jordan, Amman, Jordan.
- 2002-2005: MSc. in Architecture, University of Jordan,
Amman, Jordan.
Firas Thalji is an Architect, working with
a leading company in engineering and architecture named Omrania & Associates,
over may last 4 years my main interests were toward using computers more
powerfully in architecture and not just for enhancing the exterior or interior
appearance. In other words how to use computers as a tool of thinking.
The seminar was based on a slide show by
Dr. Marc Aurel
Schnabel.
You can get that slide show
here.
Mr. al-Qassem gave a practical introduction to Linux, he
talked about installing the system, and doing basic things with it. Mr. al-Qassem
is doing a PhD in computational solid state physics at the department, and he's
in the final stages of his research. In his talk, he demonstrated the use of a
sophisticated programme, which he uses in his work. The programme runs on Linux.

Dr. Bodoor talked about complex systems in terms of
defintion and properties of a complex system, examples from different
disciplines and contexts, significance, and potential for new powers of
understanding and explanation.
Following are some resources on the web proposed by Dr. Bodoor:
Mini Resume of Dr. Bodoor:
Education:
- 1993: Bachelor of Physics, Yarmouk University of Jordan,
Irbid, Jordan.
- 2001: PhD in Physics, University of Virginia, USA.
Dr. Bodoor's main areas of interest and
topics of immediate research include: Nucleon form factors, light-front quark
models, gauge theories.
Other areas of interest: complex systems, game theory, molecular biology, chaos
theory, intillegence theories, nature of consciousness, philosophy, etc
