INTRODUCTION

The Upper Avon Car Maintenance Club is a volunteer group based in Durrington in the grounds of Upper Avon School. The club was formed in May of 1999 and has gradually grown with the support of a merry band of local volunteers and a grant from Wiltshire County Council. The club provides the youth of our community with a practical introduction to car maintenance and an environment that will encourage interest and make learning fun.  The mission statement of the club is as follows; 

MISSION STATEMENT

“To deliver a car maintenance programme to young people between the ages of 13 and 19 outside school hours; providing enjoyable, practical and purposeful extra curriculum activities.” 

PARTICIPATION

The UACMC is open to the young people between the ages of 13 and 19, on the receipt of a signed enrolment form. However, due to Health and Safety constraints, group numbers may need to be capped. Additionally, appropriately skilled and motivated adults will support club members throughout the programme. 

CLUB CHARTER

The club gives opportunities for young people to: 

Develop social and practical skills by working with dedicated adults and other club members.

Experience a variety of learning and teaching styles with people from different walks of life.

Discover abilities by acquiring knowledge and achieving a degree of competence.

Discover new talents and increase their confidence.

Understand their own strengths and weaknesses and assess their personal level of proficiency.

Gain experience, which could be utilised positively in future employment situations.

Experience a sense of fun and enjoyment.                    

THE COMMITTEE

The committee is a group of volunteers from the local community who have expressed an interest in UACMC. The group has elected members who fulfill identified roles; there is a chairperson, a treasurer and a secretary. 

The following applies to all committee members; 

Members are honorary.

Out of pocket expenses may be claimed but must be specified and supported by documented evidence.

Payment can only be made with the agreement of the committee.

COMMITTEE MEMBERS

The role of all committee members is; 

To liaise with outside agencies to draw up appropiate programme.

To establish partnerships with local businesses and community groups.

To organise fundraising.

To identify how funds are to be used.

All membes have voting rights but must declare a pecuniary interest where appropriate.

To have oversight of financial management.

To include or exclude committee members.

To alter the constitution.

To dissolve the committee.

FINANCE

The following applies to the club’s finances: 

UACMC has a bank account.

Two nominated signatories must sign any cheques drawn on this account.

Accounts are available for inspection.

DISSOLUTION

To ensure that all monies in the bank account, and all held equipment, is distributed to Upper Avon School and other similar clubs in the local area. 

THE CONSTITUTION

The constitution may be altered only with the agreement of the majority of the committee
