UCD Canoe Club Alpes Trip 2005
Faffage |
|
Yes it is that important to us. We can all have a more enjoyable trip, get more paddling done and reduce stress levels. Expect zero tolerance of this terrible habit. It can strike anyone at anytime so be prepared and adopt corrrective measures. Follow the tips below:
The Elimination of Faffage (aka Flaffage) Involves:
- Good Planning:
Use the car-thocracy: our evening meetings should help with these things;
Go to the river in any appropriate car;
Make your plan for the next day at the campsite around dinner;
Put your swimsuit on in your tent before heading to the river;
Petrol: fill up your car once it gets below halfway;
Food: plan your lunch and dinner for the next day, where & when you're buying it and leave early enough to do it;
All French shops (except supermarkets) close from 12 - 2 pm;
Buy everything in one go;
Have drinking water and food for the trip;
Get up early enough to do all you have to do (breakfast, shop, fix boat, load car, tie-up boats etc.) before the river trip;
When packing your car, keep all the paddling kit at the top;
Tie up your boats the night before;
After a trip, keep the kit you need to dry in the car so you don't have to untie the boats;
Are you on the next trip? What car are you in? Where is your dry gear?
Know who is paddling so the correct boats are on your roof;
The time for discussion is not at the riverbank;
We are not your alarm clock, we are not your mother - sort your own shit out!!
- Expediency:
Adopt the following principle: "your boat is either on the roof or at the river bank - never on the ground";
make decisions quickly - there's no such thing as changing your mind;
Help the drivers - they have to do the shuttle, you don't;
make sure your dry gear is in a car at the getout;
Use any spare time you have: tie up boats, have lunch, pee/poo, pack the car, bring boats to the riverbank;
get to the river on time.
