Hey. I am a party animal who loves to have a good time and blow off all classes at all possible times. At The University of Chicago I plan to double down and actually do something though. I don't want to be a loser and study all day.

I'm wearing my U of Chicago t-shirt as I type this, which means it must be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or . . . well, you get the point: it's my favorite t-shirt, because I'm slightly obsessed with all things U of C right now! Most of all, though, I'm excited to meet the people: I have high hopes for all of you, and I'm really looking forward to September (although not at the expense of a great summer!).

I was very, very active in high school and hope to continue that at U of C! Probably the number one thing I want to do is keep playing in band/orchestra at U of C (French Horn player). I listen to classical music a lot. My favorite is definitely Shostakovich's 5th. If you haven't heard it, you should give it a listen. The one thing about U of C that frightened me the most was its lack of school spirit. Well, I'll tell you one thing. Even if no one else is, I'm going to be at those football/basketball games, cheering on our valiant Maroons.
I also like to read (Pynchon, David Foster Wallace, Nabokov, CS Lewis, Neil Gaiman, you get the idea), love badminton (even though I'm no good at it), am a Republic of Rome addict (It's an Avalon Hill game), and my ultimate goal is to someday be Vice President of the US.

Hey all, it's awesome to meet such an eclectic bunch. normally I'm considered pretty random and crazy in groups of people but now I guess I'll just be fairly average, alas. I love to dance, act, act stupid, do crazy stuff in public places (I highly recommend Truth or Dare Jenga in coffee shops) and be exceptionally sassy to just about everyone. I'll be really quite excited if you IM me, because I spend copious amounts of time online during the summer when I'm not at work, and I'm a gregarious sort so I like new and exciting people a lot. Since you all are coming to Chicago, you've already gotten through the smart people filter so there's an even better chance I'll like you. I'm afraid of cold weather, economics, and thinking during the summer, so if anyone wants to reassure me that I didn't come to completely the wrong place I'd appreciate it. Ciao!

Hey everybody. I'm into a lot of things especially music, DJing, and
producing. I enjoy all types of music, from electronic to old jazz and bossa
nova, and back to indie rock. I also love writing short stories, and I read
a lot of Borges, Pynchon, and Burroughs. I'm working all summer and going
out every night right now, burning the candle from every angle. The picture
on the left is I think my best picture, and the one on the right is me now.
I plan to have an awesome time in Chicago and I can't wait to meet everybody!

"I wash my hands of those who imagine chattering to be knowledge, silence to
be ignorance, and affection to be art," wrote Kahlil Gibran. ~ I daydream too
much and I survive on my own little world. I like to speed on the highway with
the stereo blasting Rachmaninov or Tchaikovsky, or Billy Joel or Dido. I'm
obsessed with the song "River of Dreams." I play the piano, the violin, and the
clarinet; but I wish I would practice more because listening to beautiful music
is nothing compared to playing it. The most wonderful line is "...his mouth was
full of the taste of pennies" by Hemingway. My friends call the Chagall windows
at the Chicago Art Institute "Patricia's Chagall windows." I seem shy so you'll
have to approach me first -- but then I won't shut up. I believe things happen
for a reason. I like to dance alone in the dark. I smile too much. I'm an expert
procrastinator, but once I get started, I don't want to stop. Most importantly,
I have a small cactus plant named Sesame.

so ready for both.

I'm something of a language addict. I speak English, Spanish, Russian, and am actively working on Japanese (my favorite.) Other languages that I'm playing with in my spare time include Finnish, Serbo-Croatian, Ainu, Arabic, Hindi, and Swedish. Though I'm not too crazy about Romance languages in general, I'd love to learn any language anyone's willing to teach me or help me with, with the exception of French (please don't take it personally, Francophiles--I just can't stand the way it sounds.) The fields of linguistics that particularly interest me are historical linguistics (did you know that "science" is etymologically related to "shit"?), orthography, and sociolinguistics.
