These rules have been put together through discussion with long-standing members of the community. They are there for the benefit of everybody, not just the ops/admins, so please take the time to read through them and familiarise yourself with their requests.
General Channel Conduct
The channel is broadly "PG-13" at all times. This means that sexual discussion or play is not permitted; nor are displays of violence or offensive language. Please refrain from taking part in extended discussions regarding drink, drugs and their effects. Religious and racial commentary is discouraged owing to a likelihood of unpleasant arguments.
The admin team understands that discussion often strays, and that audiences can differ wildly. To that end, an air of tolerance is encoraged; however, should concerns be raised regarding a discussion or role-play, it is expected that the discussion or role-play be discontinued, or taken to a more apt forum, or to private message. Failure to respect this could result in a ban.
This policy also applies to links posted on-channel.
Private Messages
While the Admin Team accepts that private messaging is largely outside of its jurisdiction, channel members should note that abuse of the PM system may result in a ban from the channel. Examples of abuse include, for example, seeking solely sexual play through PM, or persisisting in attempting to talk with someone who does not want to talk to you.
Personal Disputes
Personal arguments and disputes have no place upon the channel, and should remain outside. The Admin Team and Ops will not resolve the problem for you. If a private argument disrupts the enjoyment of the channel for others, all involved may be banned.
Op/Admin Conduct
The Ops and Administrators of the channel are bound by the Channel Admin Policy. This document outlines their roles and responsibilities, explains what users can expect from them, and provides guidance for Ops and Admins dealing with situations.
Furnet staff will not normally override channel-level decisions: please do not approach them regarding problems you have had on-channel.
If you feel that you have been unfairly treated by either an Op or Administrator, please talk with Foxcub or WaveFox. Both may be contacted on IRC, or through MemoServ (/msg MemoServ help) if offline.
Further Information
Ops and Admins exist to uphold the rules and to ensure that the channel remains a safe and pleasant place to be for all of its members. To that end, decisions taken by Ops and Admins, be they bans, kicks, changes to the channel modes or topics or the like are not for open discussion on-channel. Should you have concerns or want to discuss a matter further, please contact the Op or Admin in question via PM. Any escalation or complaints regarding the activity of an Op or Admin should be directed either to Foxcub or WaveFox.
While Ops and Admins have the power to arbitrarily remove any individual from the channel, it is expected that they use their powers prudently and responsibly. Bans without prior warning should only be placed in exceptional circumstances.
In addition to these Rules, channel members should read and abide by the Furnet Code of Conduct. No user is exempt from the rules and procedures set down within this Code.
