Employment opportunities exist for different areas. Please send us your application with photo and résumé. Citizenship of a member state of the United Nations is necessary. You must be at least 18 years and of legal age in your home state.

We do not recommend any one track over another. UNIA employees come from a wide variety of backgrounds. Having an undergraduate degree is not mandatory, but is highly recommended. Life experiences are taken into consideration. However, a standard requirement for officers, intelligence analysts, and other non-clerical positions, is a college degree, preferably an advanced degree. Applying for an agent-carrier the candidate has to know at least two official UN languages.

The UNIA does not offer any trainee or student programmes.

Employment at the UNIA does not release you of your obligations to the armed or civilian services in your member state. You should apply via the website as your final year of service begins if you are interested in seeking employment with the Agency.

Applicants must be willing to relocate to Vienna/Austria or any other place the Agency assignes. This might happen even multiple times a year.

Because of the classified nature of our work at the UNIA, the application process is a lengthy one. Depending on an applicant's specific circumstances, the process may take as little as six months or more than a year.
The UNIA will ask your national authorities for a security clearance of your person. Each applicant must undergo a thorough background investigation examining your life's history, your character, trustworthiness, reliability and soundness of judgement. Also examined is one's freedom from conflicting allegiances, potential to be coerced and willingness and ability to abide by regulations governing the use, handling and the protection of sensitive information. The Agency uses the polygraph to check the veracity of this information. The hiring process also entails a thorough medical examination of one's mental and physical fitness to perform essential job functions. After a series of test candidates have to attend a three month training. No payment will be available during this time. At the end the candidate has to complete in-field test, simulating a sample mission.
