Legality of corruption in Zambia
The fact that corruption is abusing a public position for a personal (family, party, sectional, tribal etc) advantage or interest over those of the many, makes it a prosecutable crime in accordance with the anti-corruption laws in Zambia embodied in the anti-corruption act.
The first act on corruption known as corrupt practices ACT 1980 was first passed by parliament in 1980 (and came into effect at the end of 1982) provided for the establishment of the Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) with the tasks of investigating, prosecuting offenders and educating members of the public on the evil effects of corruption on society. In 1996, this act was amended and a new ACT, ACC (Amendment) Act number 42 of 1996 has since been enacted with basically the same duties and further made the ACC 'autonomous'.
